My dog has off-white discharge 2 weeks after spay. Is it normal?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 1 year and 5 months old | 18.7 lbs

My female dog was neutered 2 weeks ago.but now off white discharge is present in her vaginal.can you please help.her incision is still healing

A little bit of discharge is normal and may not be related to the surgery. You should how ever always pay attention to any changes or deviations from Ginger's 'normal'. I recommend to call your veterinarian and tell them what is happening. They may ask to examine her again to look at the discharge under a microscope to check for any infection or they may suggest something else.

It doesn't require an emergency visit but it isn't normal either that long after a spay, it's probably an infection and it will need to be treated with an antibiotic course, you should try and make an apointment with your vet in the next couple days if possible.

I would not be concerned about this change in discharge. Usually a brownish discharge indicates old blood/bleeding. If she is otherwise acting normal just continue giving her the medication as prescribed and keep your recheck appointment for Monday.

This can sometimes occur 7-10 days after surgery as the suture starts to break down where it was tied near the cervix. As long as Riley feels good, and has a normal appetite, I would not be concerned. If the discharge hasn't cleared up in a day or two, you should have her checked out by your vet.

My dog has vaginal discharge after spay surgery. Should I worry?

Hi ! If Holly is well in herself, eating bright passing normal feaces and urine, I would not worry. A little bit of vaginal discharge is expected folllowing the surgery and should gradually decrease and disappear. It can take sometimes a couple of weeks for it to settle completely. Is white or clear vaginal discharge normal for a spayed dog?

Hello, sorry to hear about Pepper. Vaginal secretions like this could be normal especially in an intact female. However, if she had a heat about 3-4 weeks ago, this discharge could be more concerning for an infection (pyometra) or a false pregnancy. Other signs associated with a pyometra could include a decreased appetite, lethargy, painful abdomen, and persistent discharge from her vulva. If you note any of these, then Pepper should be evaluated by her veterinarian immediately. Finally, discharge from the vulva could indicate a urinary tract infection, vaginitis, perhaps her heat cycle. If you note continue to note this discharge, then have Pepper evaluated. Pet's vaginal discharge & anal gland showing after spay: Is it normal?

I am not sure what type of vaginal discharge you are discussing. If there is a little blood post spay that can be normal. Blood can leak into the vaginal region. This is normal a few days post spay. However if this last I would be concerned and he needs to go back to the vet. Sometimes anal glands can get impacted and infected. I would recommend having a vet try and express them to make sure they are normal.

My dog has smelly discharge 4 days after pyometra spay. Is it normal?

I am assuming she is on an antibiotic. if not, then your vet should start her on an antibiotic. If she is on an antibiotic then you should call your vet as he/she may want to change antibiotics. After 4 days, I would expect any discharge to be decreasing.

Is a small amount of discharge from my puppy's spay incision normal after spay?

Great question! Yes, a small amount of serous discharge is normal, and as long as it isn't excessive or bloody, there's not need to take Kimber into the vet. Keep monitor the incision, make sure she doesn't lick at it by keeping the Ecollar on her at all times, and be sure to contact your vet (or ask us!) with any questions or concerns :-)

My dog just got spayed. Is discharge, panting, odd behavior normal?

Poor Abby! Discharge is not common from surgical incisions, but a very small amount of clear discharge can still be within normal limits. However, if the discharge is bloody or pus-like, this could be indicative of an incisional infection or suture reaction. Regardless, since Abby is panting and acting abnormally, I do recommend taking her to the vet for evaluation since this could be a sign of pain. Until you take her to the vet, be sure to keep an e-collar (cone) on Abby to prevent her from licking at her incision, as this would likely make matters worse.
