Spayed dog bleeding vaginally but acting normal. Is it an emergency?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Female | spayed | 95 lbs

Hello my spayed dog which is 9 years old started dripping blood from her vagina it’s not a huge amount she is drinking, eating and acting normal should I rush to a emergency vet or can I wait till morning to take her to be seen

As long as Cocoa is acting normally otherwise you can probably wait to go to the veterinarian first thing tomorrow morning. However, if she shows any other abnormal signs then I would recommend going to the emergency veterinarian tonight.

She may have a urinary tract infection, which although uncomfortable, is not an emergency to be seen immediately. There's a very small chance this could be related to something called stump pyometra which is an infection of the uterine stump in spayed female dogs. A stump pyometra can be an emergency, however usually would result in lethargy, fever, or inappetance.

My dog is bleeding heavily, won't eat, and just drinks water. What's wrong?

I'm wondering if Brownie is spayed or not. If she isn't spayed, I would be very concerned that this bleeding could be due to a pyometra. A pyometra is an infection of the uterus that is fatal without treatment, and is a medical emergency. Even if she is spayed, it's still a medical emergency when a dog is bleeding a lot. She needs veterinary care now, and you have to take her into a vet immediately. Best of luck.

My spayed dog's nipple is bleeding. Is this normal or a vet emergency?

Poor girl. No this is not normal. She likely has suffered some type of injury and needs to have this area inspected by your vet and treated. She may need stitches, antibiotics and anti-inflammatory medicine. I hope Lil One gets better soon. You can try wrapping a clean t-shirt or bandage material around her to help stabilize the area if you can’t get her in right away and it continues to bleed. Best of luck and take care.

Why is my unspayed senior dog bleeding, shaking, and not eating?

With her being intact and having the discharge you are describing, I am particularly worried about a condition known as pyometra which is an infection within her uterus. While there are other possibilities, a pyometra is most likely. Unfortunately, this is not something that can wait until tomorrow. Please seek veterinary attention for Cagney as soon as possible tonight. If she does have a pyometra, her condition can go downhill rapidly without aggressive intervention. My spayed dog is licking and leaking blood. Is this an emergency?

It sounds like Angel had a pyometra, which is a life threatening infection of the uterus. It is concerning that she is licking her genital area more again and you now see a discharge coming from that region. While you can see some bloody draining from the incision site, you typically do not see any coming from the genital region itself. Given her recent history of a pyometra and the fact that I can't see her in person to say if she is ok or not, I think taking her into the emergency clinic is the best idea.

Why is my spayed dog bleeding from her vulva? Is it serious?

Bleeding from the vulva in a spayed dog is not normal. Possible causes include bleeding from the urinary tract (UTI, urinary bladder stones, tumor) or bleeding from the vaginal vault (tumor or infection). Some bleeding/clotting disorders can also be causing the blood you see. I would recommend that Isabella be checked out by a veterinarian. After a thorough physical and vaginal exam, your vet may recommend bloodwork, clotting times, x-rays, or ultrasound.
