Why is my spayed female dog dribbling urine and leaving scent?

It's possible, but most intact female dogs do not urine mark the way that intact males do. It's more likely that Raven is urinating in the house due to a medical problem such as a urinary tract infection or bladder stones, or she may simply not be fully housetrained. If you suspect that she may have a medical problem, I would recommend having her checked by a vet - he/she can take a urine sample for analysis to determine if an infection or other problem is present. If her exam and lab work are normal, feel free to post again with a bit more information about how often she has accidents, when/where they usually happen, and how you originally housetrained her - we would be happy to try and make more specific suggestions if needed.

I would assume the small is from her anal glands I would recommend having a veterinarian express them to make sure they are not infected or impacted. If they are infected it can cause excess licking but not linked to urinary issues. If dogs are spayed very young they can get incontience issues. However I would highly recommend doing a urine culture first and making sure she is 100 percent healthy before starting incontience medications

If you have had her for a long time and she has never had this issue then she probably is spayed and the problem is caused by something else. Lulu could have a urinary tract infection, bladder stones, or a tumor causing her to spot blood. The only way to know would be to have her examined by a vet. A vet can run a urinalysis to look for an infection and take an x-ray, if needed, to help diagnose. You could try to find a low cost clinic in your area and see if they could help. She may just need an oral antibiotic to treat an infection so it might not be too costly. Hope she gets better soon!

Some females will develop incontinence after the spay. This does make them more prone to urinary tract infections and I do recommend to have Amber visit her veterinarian. The doctor will check her for a bladder infection and if that is clear they will discuss starting her on a medication to tighten the sphincter. This will likely stop the incontinence. The most likely fluid in a spayed female dog would be urine. When a dog dribbles urine or leaves spots of urine on the bedding I often think about urinary tract infections. Older dogs can also develop urinary sphyncter incompetence (or a weak sphyncter), making it difficult for them to hold their bladder overnight. There are also less common causes, for instance bladder stones or endocrine diseases. Your veterinarian will likely offer to run a urinalysis, a urine culture, and maybe some bloodwork on Sassy to determine what might be causing the urine leaking. There are antibiotics we use for urinary tract infections and if it appears to be loss of bladder control there are medications to help with that as well. Poor Bella! Dobermans are a bit notorious for their suckling behavior either on their flanks or on blankets, or beds in this case. The majority of the time, this is an anxiety-induced compulsive behavior. The goal should be trying to reduce any anxiety or stress-inducing triggers, but it is possible that her urine leakage could be stressful to her. You can try using calming pheromone collars or diffusers, such as Adaptil. Severe cases of ongoing suckling will sometimes need to be started on anxiety medications. Bella's urine leakage could be due to urinary incontinence (not uncommon in young spayed female dogs), urinary tract infection, crystals in the urine or bladder stones. To start, I would recommend taking Bella to her vet for an exam and urinalysis. If there is no evidence of infection or crystals on the urinalysis, her vet may discuss starting Bella on medication to improve the urethral sphincter's ability to contract and hold urine. If infection is present, antibiotics will be needed. As I'd mentioned, it is possible that Bella's urinary issues are stressful to her and are triggering this suckling behavior. Most dogs are interested in smelling other dogs' urine - intact males are often especially interested, even if the other dog is spayed or neutered. They get lots of information about other dogs from sniffing their urine, so it's very normal social behavior for them - even if we find it a bit gross :)
