Adopted dog sick & not eating. Can she play with my vaccinated dog?

Loss of appetite and decreased energy can be observed with many conditions such as gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, kidney disease, pancreatitis, among many other possibilities. I recommend that you have Rocco evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. They would be able to check for these possibilities and others depending on the findings on exam. Poor Baby! I am sorry she isn't feeling good. The symptoms you have mentioned make me concerned that Baby may have some sort of respiratory issue-kennel cough, pneumonia. I would recommend contacting your regular vet and arrange for her to be seen today. Advise them she has just come from a shelter situation, as repsiratory diseases can be quite contagious. They will likely ask for you to keep Baby in the car until they are ready to bring her into an exam room. Your vet will do a thorough exam, listen to Baby's heart and lungs. They may recommend some diagnostics such as X-rays and bloodwork too. Depending on the issues identified treatment may range (assuming it is a respiratory issue) from oral medications and rest at home, to hospitalization with IV fluids, oxygen therapy and injectable medications. I hope Baby starts to feel better soon!

It sounds as Jackson is suffering from a gastrointestinal condition, possibly an infection. it could also be due to ingestion of a foreign body material. i would recommend taking him to the vet the first chance you get, he will need to be checked first, if the vet thinks it's a simple gastrointestinal infection he will need an anti vomiting injection, antibiotics and a special food for a few days in order to get better.

Cough can be caused by an infection, heart problem or lung condition, it is important to first know the cause before treating it as treatment is different from condition to another. The most common disease causing cough is a viral/bacterial infection called Kennel cough, this disease usually resolves without treatment within a couple weeks but if the cough is too severe it is recommended to go to the vet in order to get cough medicine and antibiotics.

If Ollie has not improved in the next 2-3 days, have him evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment to make sure there is nothing else more concerning going on. As long as your dog has all his vaccines and they are kept up to date, he won't get deadly diseases such as parvo, distemper, or rabies from your mother's dog. There could be another reason why your dog isn't eating or drinking, and has thrown up. He could have a GI illness, may have eaten something rotten, could have a foreign body, or could have pancreatitis among other causes. Given that he has drank water and if it's stayed down, I can give you a home remedy to try to see if that helps. Withhold food for 12-24 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. If the vomiting continues in the absence of food, he vomits the bland diet, develops diarrhea, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, he will need to see a vet right away. I would keep them separate for now and wash your hands after handling each dog. She needs to rest as stress may make her worse. I’m not sure what type of sickness she has but contact them tomorrow and they should be able to get medication for you to give her at home. She will heal more quickly at your house than in a shelter environment. If your dog is healthy and vaccinated it should be able to fight off any infection the new dog may have.
