Why is my dog sad and not eating after we adopted another dog?

However, it is very likely that she will normalize soon perhaps in a few days. One thing you can do is entice her appetite by adding things like pieces of chicken or beef to her food for a few days just to encourage her to eat. If there is no improvement in the next few days then have her examined by your veterinarian to ensure there is not a medical reason to explain this. Good luck!

However, that should improve quickly. If he is otherwise fine with a normal activity level, you can continue to monitor for the next 24 hours. If no improvement, have him evaluated by your veterinarian. It could be that he is painful following his surgery. Theoretically, yes, there are things that can be transmitted to your other dogs. However, this should subside and should not last very long. I would entice her appetite by adding things like boiled chicken, dog grade gravy, lean meats, among others. Poor Boomer! It does sound like he's a bit stressed. You can try hand feeding him his food for a few days until he settles in to see if that helps (especially if he takes it from you), or try to entice him to eat his own food by adding in a little boiled chicken or low-sodium broth to make it tasty. You can then slowly phase out both as he becomes more comfortable. If he continues to refuse to eat, or starts to show any signs of illness, seeking a vet exam to rule out any issues is a good idea. If he doesn't seem to settle down or is very stressed for several weeks, talking with a trainer is another option as well.

She should start acting more normal soon, but if her behavior persists she will need to see her veterinarian. If she is not anything, vomiting or displaying other abnormal signs, she should be seen soon. If her appetite is just decreased then you can give her another week or so. Be sure to encourage her to eat and drink as much as possible. You can try hand feeding her or adding warm water to her kibble. Sometimes warmed up canned food is enticing as well.
