Why is my Siberian Husky losing hair with a dry patch near tail?

Pet's info: Dog | Siberian Husky | Male | unneutered | 20 lbs

I have Siberian husky. He has small wounds on his body I thought it was bcoz of ticks which I got treated from vet. He was trying to tell me that his back where his tail starts it was itching him so I applied skin lotion given by vet for skin problem but today I found big patch on that area n it's dry n hair came out it's back patch n rough to touch but now it's not itching. I don't know what to do.... I am worried.

Itching on the hind end is most often due to fleas. Check that the tick product you used on Prince covers fleas as well. Also make sure that the product you use will kill fleas at every stage in their life cycle - not just the adult fleas. Keep applying the topical medications prescribed by your veterinarian in case there is a skin infection. If this does not resolve the issue you should go back to your vet for further diagnostics. Since some metabolic diseases can cause hair loss, your vet will want to do blood work as the next step. Allergies can also cause itching and skin infections so speak with your vet about anti-allergy medications.

It's difficult for me to tell what happened without looking at the dog, but I think the hair that came out may have been old hair. They often have a buildup of old hair in their hind end when they are shedding; and it doesn't come out easily. If you haven't been brushing in the last month or longer, then the hair can build up and it will make him itchy. In this case, it would be good that the hair came out and nothing to worry about.

If all the hair came off and now he's bald back there, then that is a problem. I would definitely be wandering what that lotion is and would want to evaluate the dog. It's best if you talk to the vet (not a compounder) if you had this problem. It should not be a serious problem, but good to have it checked.

This is probably caused by an allergic reaction. first of all make sure you de-flea Prince regularly every month with a high quality spot on (ex. Advantage) as fleas are by far the most common reason for these reactions. If the fleas are not the problem, it could be an allergic reaction to food or an environmental factor. this is more complicated to treat and will sometimes require medications such as Steroids, anti histamines or Apoquel in order to stop the allergy.

Hello, it looks like Lucky may be shedding his winter coat since it is starting to warm up. If he does have an active skin condition however, look for any sings of itchiness, anxiety, further hair loss, red skin, and scabs. Dogs with skin allergies may also bite and chew at their feet constantly, and environmental allergies are common during this time of the year. If you note any of these, then have lucky seen by his veterinarian as he may need medications. Please also make sure that he has monthly flea and tick control as fleas can also cause severe itchiness and hair loss, especially around his lower back, legs and belly. Those spots on Pedro could be several things including allergies, skin mites, flea bites, ringworm (which humans can get) or a bacterial infection. You can try adding in an omega 3 fatty acid supplement for dogs, this can help improve the skin health. You may also try changing his diet to something like Royal Canin or Nutro as they are aimed at skin health. You can wash the lesions with soap once a day and rinse well (don't wash his whole body, just those spots). Protect the areas from licking or scratching. If they don't start looking better within about a week or if they get worse, have him examined by the veterinarian who may prescribe medications. You may also try treating him for fleas to see if that helps. You may not always be able to find fleas. Best of luck and please feel free to post any additional questions.

That's not good. Give Snow a bath, and make sure she is up to date on her flea treatment, giving her one after she is dried off from the bath if she isn't. Monitor her, and if the hair loss gets worse, then take her into the vet. I hope this helps!

No, this hair loss does not sound normal and it does not look normal in the picture. Reggie could have a skin infection, fungal infection, or mange among other things causing his hair loss. Without seeing him in person, I can't say for certain what is going on. He does need to see a vet to have this diagnose and treated. I recommend giving his vet a call now to make him an appointment. My husky is losing hair, and his skin is turning black and scaly.

It is possible shadow is starting to develop allergies. The most common type are flea, food and environment. However husky breed are prone to zinc deficiencies which affect their coat. I would recommend taking to a veterinarian to assess the skin. I would use flea prevention every 30 days to help with a possible allergy.
