My 5-month-old Shih Tzu puppy won't eat. Is she sick or full?

Cookie is quite the cutie! I'm sorry she's feeling a bit off. With those very general symptoms, I would recommend keeping an eye on her and taking her to the vet tomorrow if she doesn't go back to normal. If she started vomiting, has white gums, doesn't want to move around at all, or seems uncomfortable, then I would recommend taking her to an emergency clinic for evaluation. Hi. Poor baby :( That definitely is concerning especially for a puppy. There are obviously alot of causes for not eating. It could range from parasites, to dietary indiscretions, to viral infection (parvo), and many other illnesses. I would recommend getting Jax seen tomorrow at your vet or the ER because puppies can get dehydrated, hypoglycemic and decompensate quickly. They will do an exam, a parvo test, and a fecal to start most likely. Good luck

Most dogs will not starve themselves. It is best to remove any and all extras such as people food and treats that are more enticing, and only offer her the dog food for a few days. You can either set it down for a period of 15-20 minutes and pick it back up and try again in a few hours if she doesn't eat, or leave it out free-fed for a day or so to give her a chance to check it out and try it. Some dogs may not be comfortable with certain types of bowls as they may clink against a collar or feel weird on their faces/feet. Changing things up by trying a bowl of a different material or adding a placemat or rug under the bowl may help encourage Sunshine to try it out and start eating. If she is refusing to eat suddenly when she was eating fine before, or is showing any signs of illness in addition to this (vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, painful belly, etc), then there could be an underlying issue causing it which should be checked out by a vet.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Bleu Smith. I recommend that he see a veterinarian today. The stress of a new home and environment can cause a low appetite. However, so can illness. Being such a young puppy, it will be easy for his blood sugar to drop too low from not eating. I recommend placing some karo or maple syrup on his gums and seeking care I hope this information helps!

I definitely think you need to see a veterinarian. While some dogs can have a slight decrease in appetite at the beginning and end of pregnancy it would not be normal to have to force feed a dog. Depending on when she was bred a veterinarian may be able to check for pregnancy with ultrasound or an x-ray, but there is unfortunately not a blood test for pregnancy in dogs. Luna may need to have some other diagnostic tests performed to determine why she isn't eating.

Poor Takumi. If you tried offering him chicken and he won't eat, that tells me he is quite sick and cannot be treated at home. He needs to see a vet immediately to get this diagnosed and treated. Please take him into an ER vet clinic; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies.
