My senior dachshund wobbles, snaps, and has eye issues. Is it retinal detachment?

I recommend to have Cassie examined by the veterinarian. It's possible this is a benign iris cyst BUT it could also be melanoma or some other type of cancer. Once the doctor can determine where the black blob is found within the eye, this will give a better idea of what it could be. Cassie may also need a referral to a specialist. I hope this helps.

This could be a number of things including diabetes, severe arthritis, a brain tumor, infection, inner ear infection, and others. Regardless, it is clear she is not doing well. She needs a thorough visit with a vet to figure out what’s wrong and how to make it better. It is also completely reasonable and possibly the best choice to humanely euthanize her if we can’t get her comfortable. Best luck in whatever you decide.

I am sorry to hear about your dachsund! It looks like his hairloss is primarily around his ears/pinnae? and his trunk? It is possible your dachsund suffers from pattern baldness, which can cause this pattern of hair loss in this dog breed. There aren't proven treatments but anecdotal use of some medications such as pentoxifylline and melatonin are reported. I would discuss with your vet whether they feel these are appropriate to try with your dog given his medical history/current medications. As far as the cornea goes, are you certain they didn't say his retina instead of his cornea? The cornea is the surface of the eye, the retina is the back of the eye. In some dogs, if there are problems with the retina we can remove the cataract but the dog still won't be able to see because the retina is damaged already. If they are speaking about the surface of the eye, then it is hard to say without seeing his eye more clearly.

There are a variety of of causes of this including cataracts from diabetes, a condition known as SARDS, retinal detachment or a neurologic disease. I hope this information helps!

That is concerning. Dachshunds are prone to having discs come out of place in their back and press on the spinal cord, leading to weakness or paralysis. I would recommend taking her to the vet in the next day or two to be checked out, and try to prevent her from going running or jumping in the mean time.

Sadly, many of the ailments of human senior citizens can also occur in our canine companions. Impaired vision or blindness can occur in dogs and can be due to things like cataracts, glaucoma, etc. The good news is that these diseases, if caught early enough, can be treated and sometimes even reversed or cured! My best advice is to take Baby to your local veterinarian as soon as possible to have a complete ophthalmic examination performed.
