Why is my senior dog vomiting blood after eating hot dog treats?

It seems as Shorty is suffering from a gastrointestinal condition, possibly an infection. it could also be due to ingestion of a foreign body material or a tumor in the intestines. i would recommend taking her to the vet the first chance you get, she will need to be checked first, if the vet thinks it's a simple gastrointestinal infection she will need an antibiotic course and a special food for a few days in order to get better.

If she is bright and alert and willing to eat i recommend feeding small, bland low fat meals and offering pedialyte and also fresh water to reduce the risk of developing dehydration. If she is restless and reluctant to eat she should be assessed by a vet. Obstructions, impactions and pancreatitis are all relatively common after breaking into the treat jar!

It is really not recommended that you feed him all these human foods. They are not good for him and, as you can see, they can upset his stomach. As they get older, just like in people, they get more intolerant of certain foods. Dog food only from now on. I would not be overly concerned if he only vomited once and seems otherwise fine. I have no idea what he threw up in that photo. If he continues to vomit or shows any other signs of illness then you need to take him to the vet for an exam.

Poor Marley! It could be the hot dog has upset his stomach, leading to the vomiting. I can give you a home remedy to try to see if that helps. Withhold food for 8 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. If the vomiting continues in the absence of food, he vomits the bland diet, develops diarrhea, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, he will need to see a vet right away. You could feed boiled chicken breast and cooked white rice and see if she feels better within 24 hours. If she doesn't want to eat that or she continues vomiting she should probably get checked out by a vet since she is an older girl. If she isn't normally bothered by thunderstorms, then it is unlikely that they would cause her to lose her appetite this morning.

If he is acting normal then you can withhold food for 12 hours and then offer him a small amount of a bland diet, like boiled chicken and white rice, and see how he does with that. You could also add a probiotic to his food. If the diarrhea continues, he starts vomiting, and/or becomes lethargic then he needs to be examined by a vet for treatment. He could have an infection, parasite, colitis, HGE, etc. and your vet can run lab-work to help diagnose and treat. Hope he feels better soon!

Chronic vomiting is always a good reason for concern, it could be a sign of an internal disease such as a tumour, kidney failure or pancreatitis among other things, you should take Wolfie to the vet in order to get it checked, he will need to have a blood test done so the vet can gather some more information.
