My senior dog vomited yellow bile and a stone. Could it be gallstones?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 12 years and 6 months old | 55 lbs

My senior male dog vomited yellow bile twice this morning. The last time, there was a small hard stone like substance. Could it be gallstones? Can dogs vomit gallstones? He is eating, drinking, peeing and pooping normally and he's not lethargic.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach!

I have never heard or or seen a dog vomit gall stones. I think this would be very hard to do. The more likely scenario is that he vomited up something he ate outside or some foreign material he ate. I would continue to monitor him at home since he is otherwise doing fine.

Have a good day!
