My dog ate something. Can it cause yellow vomit and dark stool?

Poor guy. It sounds like Indiana has a severe stomach upset. Yellow vomit is bile, which indicates he has an empty stomach and can't vomit anything else up. It also sounds like he is lethargic, which means that it is best to get him to your vet for treatment. Hopefully he just ate something that upset his stomach, because many underlying illnesses can cause GI (gastrointestinal) symptoms like these. The vet should be able to do a good physical exam and get his vitals to determine if there is likely something else underlying going on here or not. The more likely scenario is that he vomited up something he ate outside or some foreign material he ate. I would continue to monitor him at home since he is otherwise doing fine. Have a good day!

Hi there and thanks for posting! Blood in the stool and vomiting can have a variety of causes such as parasites, viral, or bacterial infections. Anal gland infections or cancer near the colon or of the large intestines can also cause blood in the stool. Gastrointestinal obstructions can also cause loose stool and vomiting. My best advice is to withhold food from Fandanggo until tomorrow morning (he can have water, however). Tomorrow morning, feed him small amounts of boiled chicken, rice, and plain canned pumpkin ( not he pie filling). If he is still vomiting and having diarrhea today or tomorrow, he really should see a veterinarian as soon as possible. As mentioned above, there can be many causes for Fandanggo's symptoms, so it is best if not too much time goes by without seeing a veterinarian. I'm sorry to hear of your trouble with Alex. I am quite concerned that he is vomiting brown material. I would recommend that you have Alex seen by your veterinarian again. They may recommend bloodwork and xrays to determine what is causing his symptoms. Possible causes include an intestinal instruction, infection, toxin or metabolic problem such as kidney or liver disease

It looks as though Troy ingested foreign material. If he is still sick and not feeling well, I would get him examined by a veterinarian and have abdominal x-rays taken to rule out an intestinal obstruction as the cause of the symptoms. If your pet has vomited this much in the past 45 minutes I would be very suspicious of a foreign body or a very intense dietary indiscretion (eating something he shouldn't have). I would recommend you start supportive care (like Famotiidne 05-1.0mg/kg every 12 hrs and a bland diet like Purina EN Gastrointestinal canned food OR boiled plain chicken and rice or cottage cheese. However there is a big possibility that this could have been a toxicity and if any more symptoms start to arise (such as ataxia (staggering) or shaking, crying out) then I highly recommend you seek a personal veterinarian for a physical examination and further diagnostics. - Dr. H

Vomiting is a very common symptom in animals and can be caused by something going on with the GI tract or any other organ system. If the tubular structure is grass it is possible he vomited that up after eating a large amount of it or if he previously ate something and defecated it out. Sometimes pets can vomit after straining to defecate as well. One of the main concerns with vomiting in animals is foreign body obstruction, which can be an emergency. The character of that vomit is concerning. The best plan would be for him to see your vet for an exam. Bloodwork to rule out extra GI causes and xrays are likely to be recommended as the first steps.
