My senior dog with a UTI isn't peeing for 8 hours. Is this normal?

Is she trying to urinate but can’t? If so this could be an emergency and she should be seen immediately. It is also possible that she is dehydrated and doesn’t have much urine to produce. It is likely just a habit that he urinates after drinking. Senior dogs can hold urine for up to 14 hours if healthy to not at all if incontinent. I am afraid there is no set time. You may want to take Pepper in to your veterinarian for a senior wellness exam. He may be suffering from a UTI or prostate problem should he appear sick.

Poor Quintino! I am definitely concerned about his lack of urination. Hopefully his diabetes has been well regulated, but that would be a concern. A urinary tract infection or a bladder stone would also be a possibility. If he is very lethargic you may need to take him to the emergency vet tonight to be evaluated.

If she's completely refusing food and water and it's been more than a day, I would try to get her into your vet sooner or into the ER. You can check to see how dehydrated Aurora is by gently pinching and tenting the skin over her neck. If it seems "sticky" or is very slow to return back to normal, this is a sign of dehydration. If she's dehydrated in addition to her other symptoms and also is suffering from underlying health issues, I would have her seen right away.

Antibiotics typically improve UTI signs within 1-2 days so Bakka could have something else like a stone in his urinary tract or even an issue like a prostate gland infection or rarely cancer. As the antibiotics are not working and a stone could cause him to be unable to urinate and have kidney damage, Bakka should be seen by a veterinarian.

I wouldn't rush him to the vet tonight but I wouldn't wait a couple of weeks either. It is possible that Maverick has another UTI, and it's definitely something that should be checked out. If he appears otherwise healthy and happy, eats and drinks plenty, you can wait until Monday morning. If he appears lethargic, ill or distressed, or if his urine appears very bloody, then he should be seen by a vet ASAP. As long as he can urinate and is acting otherwise normally, it is likely not an emergency situation. Consider allowing your veterinarian to collect a sterile urine sample to submit for a culture and sensitivity panel. This may identify the bacteria responsible for Red's infection as well as the most effective antibiotic to use in treatment. Stones in his bladder or kidneys and masses may be ruled out with the ultrasound. He may need to be on long term or pulsed (alternating weeks or month on/off meds) antibiotic therapy.
