My dog has UTI symptoms and is leaking urine. Is this an emergency?

If she appears otherwise healthy and happy, eats and drinks plenty, you can wait until Monday morning. If she appears lethargic, ill or distressed, or if the urine appears very bloody, then she should be seen by a vet ASAP. Feed her wet/canned food, add water to it, and make sure she drinks a lot of water to help flush the bladder.

Frequent licking and blood in the urine are signs of an infection. However if it flared after the start of the antibiotics then I would pursue further testing. Did they do anytime sample tonxhexk for cells and crystals and see what bacteria what present? From there you need an X-ray or an ultrasound to make sure there are no bladder stones as this can require surgery or the problem will keep occurring without.

Is she trying to urinate but can’t? If so this could be an emergency and she should be seen immediately. It is also possible that she is dehydrated and doesn’t have much urine to produce. UTI's can cause your dog pain, that's for sure. If you've ever had one yourself you might know that the burning sensation and pain in the lower abdomen are quite uncomfortable. The pain isn't terrible, for sure, but there's no doubt that Bella isn't feeling well. In addition, in a diabetic dog, UTI's can indicate that she is poorly regulated (i.e. there is routinely glucose in her urine) and having one signals that it's a good idea to check blood glucose as well, to determine if an adjustment might be considered in insulin dosage. Checking a quick urine dipstick can also ease your mind that she is not tipping over into diabetic ketoacidosis as well, which is a very serious condition. It's also worth noting that even though the same antibiotic is prescribed each time, when UTI's occur frequently the bacteria that cause them can become stronger, and more resistant to the normally-used antibiotics - this is why urine culture is so valuable in these cases, in order to make sure that the appropriate antibiotic is used. I would recommend that you get her in today, since it's another 36 hours since your regular vet opens, and that's a long time for her to be uncomfortable.

Yes, I would definitely take Kahlua into an ER vet. I would be very concern that if she is trying to urinate and nothing is happening that she may have bladder stones. Those can cause a blockage in the urethra, which is fatal without treatment. It could also be a UTI, but as I said, it's quite concerning that she is trying to urinate with nothing coming out. Please take her into a vet right away.

This is actually normal with a painful UTI. She probably does not want to urinate voluntarily because it hurts, So she just holds the urine. The urinary bladder has a safety system with pressure receptors. Once the bladder gets too full, there is a pressure build up and that activates those receptors which then make the bladder sphincter muscles relax and urine can leave the bladder before it bursts. So as soon as Carmen lies down the pressure increases, the urine flows. This should stop when there will be less pain when the inflammation goes away. This may take a few days.
