My senior dog is shivering and acting strange. Is it age or pain?

If she is unvaccinated for distemper, I would potentially consider this as a possibility but in older animals, distemper is not commonly seen. She may be uncomfortable from something (painful) or an infection / systemic disease. If adjusting the temperature to keep her warm does not help, I would recommend having a veterinarian examine her so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. Shaking often indicates pain and can be seen with arthritis as they age. This could also indicate a problem with the nervous system and one major cause of this in senior dogs is a condition known as cognitive dysfunction. Seeing that Booboo is 12 years old, I would recommend having him examined by a veterinarian and have his blood tested to make sure that there are no major changes to his blood that would indicate why he is exhibiting these symptoms. He may be shivering and whimpering because of discomfort. The vomiting could be due to systemic illness or infection. The sooner he is seen by a veterinarian the better. It could still be pain associated with a leg even if nothing seems wrong with them. I recommend that you have Pari evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Likely diagnostics include radiographs. Treatment would be based on findings. At the very least they can prescribe pain control medications to make Pari feel better. In the meantime, reduce her activity as much as possible as that in itself can make a big difference. Good luck and have a good day!

Shaking can be a sign of anxiety (as with thunderstorms) or could indicate pain and discomfort. I would recommend taking Molly in to be examined by your veterinarian. She likely has some degree of arthritis and this could be causing her discomfort. She may need to be started on a joint supplement and an anti inflammatory drug to help with pain. I hope this helps. My advice is to have Snoopy evaluated with her veterinarian very soon so she can be examined and tested for organ issues, gastrointestinal obstruction, and/or infection that could be underlying. She may need blood work and x-rays or other diagnostic tests to help understand what is causing her symptoms.
