How to tell if my senior dog with seizures and health issues is suffering?

I hate to hear that about Bandit. Assessing pain can be difficult. I recommend to record the behavior and also try to note if it happens during certain times or is triggered by certain activities. Phenobarbital, potassium bromide and zonisamide are common choices. However, your veterinarian will know his medical history and which would be the best choice. It's possible that the seizures are due to a brain tumor, which is very likely due to his age. this means his condition will deteriorate regardless of the treatment, sometimes the deterioration takes several months and sometimes it's a matter of days.

I recommend to take Whisper into the veterinarian asap. Mother Nature is sometimes not fast or kind. Some pets will linger (and sometimes suffer) for days before they finally pass away. The doctor will take a look at Whisper and let you know if there’s any treatments that can be done that may give you more time with her. Euthanasia may be an option as well. I'm sorry to hear that Mozza is having such severe seizures. While I do not think that seizures cause true pain, it sounds as though her quality of life is severely diminished. Recurrent or prolonged seizure activity can cause significant elevations in body temperature and subsequent brain damage. At this point, Mozza should see a vet immediately to evaluate her current neurologic status.
