My senior dog is whining, drooling, and restless. Is it a seizure?

Other signs of seizures would be strange behavior before the seizure, the seizure itself can include shaking or tending of all the muscles, Bailey may urinate or defecate during as well. I recommend keeping a close eye on her and trying to film this if it happens again to show your vet. They can determine the cause of the seizure with blood work and more advanced imaging such as a CT scan. If seizure activity is confirmed, Bailey will likely be placed on anti-seizure medication. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This is possibly neck or back pain. It could still be pain associated with a leg even if nothing seems wrong with them. It sounds like he is in discomfort. I recommend that you have Simon evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Likely diagnostics include radiographs. Treatment would be based on findings. At the very least they can prescribe pain control medications to make Simon feel better. She could be experiencing pain somewhere or even anxiety for some reason. Her veterinarian will do a thorough examination and assess her pain. From there, treatment and any necessary diagnostics can be discussed. Occasionally I have seen dogs with upper respiratory tract infections display odd behaviors at home instead of the standard coughing. Her veterinarian will check her throat. Bailey will likely be lethargic and incoordinated after this seizure and it will take a while for them to resolve. If Bailey has not been seen for these seizures by a veterinarian then I would highly recommend having Bailey examined by a vet so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. For now, let him rest and provide plenty of water for him. The sooner he is seen the better. Place him in a quiet area so that there are no triggers (light, noise, etc) that may set off another seizure. The muscle that lines the spine can spasm. This can be excruciatingly painful for the dog. Some dogs will move and cry out, bark or whine. They can be reluctant to do stairs or jump on/off furniture. Some are hesitant to walk and may stand with a hunched posture. This could be his problem or he may have a separate issue. The veterinarian will carefully examine him and determine how best to treat him. In the meantime, keep him quiet and do not give any over-the-counter pain medications as these can be toxic to dogs. Shaking and panting can also indicate pain. Small breed dogs are prone to neck and/or back pain. This is very common and can make a dog hesitant to walk, jump.or go up stairs. Prior to your appointment, keep him very quiet and carry him if he needs to move. Limiting his movements can help to ease any pain he may be experiencing. Offer water so that he does not become dehydrated. He may not want to eat though if he is nauseous. Do not give any over-the-counter pain medications as these can be be toxic to dogs. You can warm towels in the dryer to wrap him in as most dogs like to be warm. I hope this information helps!

Yes, it may be seizure related but i would be concerned it may also be due to pain and spasms. I recommend you video the episodes if they happen again and show them to your vet. I would be concerned that this could be progressive
