My senior Basset hound is lethargic, shaking, and won't eat. Urgent?

I am very sorry to hear about your Basset. These symptoms are very concerning and I would recommend an examination as soon as possible, he needs to be seen today if at all possible. Without a physical examination and laboratory testing it is very difficult for us to determine what could be causing his symptoms. We would also worry about infections, liver or kidney disease, infiltrative intestinal disease, and more. Dogs are very good at going along with pain without much complaining. Your dog is exhibiting Classic signs of discomfort. It may be joint pain/ arthritis or back pain. You should have assessed by your vet to see where the issue is and consider starting him on some kind of pain management .

I would recommend taking Basil to see a veterinarian. Without a complete physical examination it is very difficult to say if it is time for Basil. Poor Flash! It sounds like he could be painful. He could have injured himself when he slipped. It could be his back as Bassets are prone to disc issues with their long backs. Another source of pain is also possible. It would be best to have him seen by a vet for a physical exam to see if a source of pain can be located. Especially as it does not seem to be improving. You need to get Tucker to a vet for an exam ASAP. It sounds like he is very sick and is in pain. Remember, he is almost 14 years old which is around 90 years old in human years. He could have some significant underlying medical condition. Please take him to a vet immediately for an exam. Don't let him suffer.

This is an emergency. The signs are too unspecific to pinpoint what is wrong with her. She appears in pain, may have a neurological problem, and the fact that she is thin is also not normal. Please take her to a pet emergency room right away.

Given the lack of clinical signs besides lethargy and inappetence, there is not much else to go on here. I would consider obtaining a rectal thermometer tomorow and checking for a fever (above 102.5), which might suggest the presence of an infection or inflammation. If there is no fever, but his condition does not get better by Monday he should be taken in for an examination regardless. You can certainly try and feed Rusty something that would normally be considering irresistible just to see if he will accept it, rather than just his normal dog food.
