My senior dog is struggling to breathe, won't eat, and is weak.

Poor Buddy! I'm sorry to hear that he's having this problem. From your description, I would be concerned about a possible neurologic problem such as a stroke or brain tumor. He may also have severe arthritis issues, or may have a systemic illness of some kind or may have ingested something toxic. This sounds quite serious, so I would recommend taking him to an emergency clinic this evening for an exam. The veterinarian there can do blood work or other testing if needed to help diagnose the problem and see what can be done to help.

Oh my. Poor guy. The weight loss and his body condition score is very concerning. Gradual weight loss in older pets is highly suspicous of cancer unfortunately. Other possible causes are intestinal parasites, diabetes mellitus, etc. There is also possible arthritis which is causing Blue to become debilitated and unable to move around well; however, generalized weakness could also be a cause. You can try to feed Blue a high calorie diet (ie puppy food) to help with his muscle tone and try over the counter joint supplements (ie Dasuquin) to help with his mobility. Poor Misty, I understand this must be very concerning for you! I know you want to wait until tomorrow, and that could be absolutely fine and she may simply be taking a bit of an infection or general upset. However, with basset hounds and any sort of laboured breathing I always worry about a condition in their stomach called bloat or torsion, also referred to as GD or GDV. Unfortunately bassets are predisposed to this horrible condition and it is a medical emergency. I really hope this is not what is going on with Misty, but if it is she needs immediate treatment. You could watch her and see if she starts to settle, but if she is deteriorating​, becoming very lethargic, struggling to breathe or her belly is increasing in size I would go to the vet asap.

I am sorry to hear about Tucker! If he is normally a good eater and there is no reason he wouldn't want the food offered (for example you didn't just open up a new bag that could be spoiled) then I would recommend bringing him in to your vet when they open tomorrow. We can have a wide variety of reasons for dogs not wanting to eat and drink, ranging from a mild gastritis to an obstruction of the intestinal tract. If he begins vomiting tonight, becomes weak, has pale gums or a painful or swollen abdoment those would be reasons to seek veterinary care tonight. Your vet will examine Tucker and may recommend testing such as an x-ray of the abdomen based on their findings. Treatment will depend on the exam and test results but may include things like injections for nausea/vomiting, antacids to help settle the stomach, or special diet.

There are many things this could be: * laryngeal paralysis * congestive heart failure * severe pain * hypothyroidism * pulmonary thromboembolism * pneumonia * bloat * many more possibilities.... I know you are worried so you really need to get him to a vet for an exam. I think you are right to be worried. Here are some possibilities for his symptoms: * collapsing trachea * heart disease (like heart failure) * heartworm disease * kennel cough * asthma * lung worms There are many others but those are the ones I can think of off the top of my head. It could be Mick has a respiratory infection or he could have heart disease. Unfortunately heart disease can be common in senior dogs. I would take him into the vet first thing in the morning for a health check. Best of luck.
