Why is my senior dog lethargic, not eating, and peeing a lot?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Male | neutered | 63 lbs

My 10 yr old lab mix hasn't been eating well for almost 2 weeks. The last 2 days he's had less than 1 cup of food. Drinking and peeing lots, with urgency and dribbling on the short walk to the run. Lethargic most of the day but will perk up for short amt of time. Also, back end often gives out lately. Has been on gabapentin for spondylosis x1yr and thyrotab x3.5 yrs. Vet is running urinalysis but will take 4 days she said. Very worried.

I would agree that Finnigan also sounds very sick. The excessive peeing and urination makes me concerned about diabetes. In addition to the urinalysis I would recommend running some blood work. This would rule out the diabetes and also check his liver and kidney values. It may also be beneficial to take X-rays if the abdomen as well since he isn't eating well.
