My senior dog is coughing blood and has nosebleeds. What should I do?

Oh no, poor Marble! It is concerning that he coughed out some blood mucous and while that can be a sign of respiratory infection, in a senior dog I would also be concerned that it could be a sign of cancer. It's best that he is seen by a vet tomorrow for a physical exam, blood tests, urinalysis, and chest x-rays. These tests will help the vet diagnose what is causing his symptoms. Once a diagnosis is reached, the vet can discuss what treatment options are available for Marble.

This is an emergency and you need to take your dog to a Pet ER or out of hours veterinarian now. There could be a bleeding tumor in your dog's upper airways, or a burst blood vessel and severe blood loss.

Poor girl! It sounds like she has some allergies! You can try giving her 1/2 tablet of a 25mg Benadryl to see if this helps but with her having blood from her nose this could be something more serious like a fungal infection or a tumor in the nose so I would have your vet do an exam on her and maybe some skull X-rays. Also if her paws are dry looking she could have a bacterial or yeast infection between her toes or Paw pads. Your vet will be able to look at her pads again and see if she needs medicine for that as well. your vet will also be able to put her on a stronger allergy medicine if needed. Nose bleeds that are persistent in an older dog are highly suspicious of cancer or a fungal infection. Trauma to the nose is also possible, but unlikely to result in chronic bleeding episodes. I am so sorry but Bubbalina needs to be seen by your vet right away for testing (Bloodwork +.- radiographs). If cancer is present, then steroids may be recommended to try and slow down the progression and also supportive care can be provided to Bubbalina to hopefully make her more comfortable. Any heart disease associated with blood clots may result in your dog coughing up blood. A heartworm infection increases the risk for pulmonary thormboembolism which may cause blood or bloody fluid to be pushed into the airways. Has he been tested for heartworm disease? Dogs with pancreatitis, some types of anemia, lung cancer, systemic bleeding, inflammatory diseases and hyperadrenocorticism will also be at an increased risk for pulmonary disorders which could cause this. Something is definitely causing him discomfort and pain. More advanced testing may be needed. Have you considered taking him to see a veterinary internal medicine specialist? Poor Daisy Mae. This could be potentially serious like heart disease or pneumonia or even certain toxins. On the other hand this could be tracheal irritation due to a lot of coughing. I would take her to the vet as soon as possible to ensure that she is the okay. Your vet will be able to take X-rays and do bloodwork if needed. Poor Daisy! She is an older girl, and unfortunately this sneezing with blood in her snot could be due to a malignant growth (cancer) in her nasal cavity. It could also be due to a foreign body, fungal infection, or respiratory infection. Because this has been ongoing for a while, it's best that Daisy is seen by a vet either today or tomorrow. The vet can do a physical exam, blood tests, urinalysis, x-rays, and may look up her nasal cavity with an endoscope to diagnose what is causing her symptoms.
