How to schedule my dog's prednisone, doxy, metronidazole, and Maalox?

Or you can give the prednisone and the granudoxy together and 2 hours later give the maalox. I hope this helps!

The order should be as followed: Cerenia first thing in the morning, one hour later Omeprazol and Sucralfate, then half an hour later Metronidazole (with food). If he does not throw up and his appetite is fine then there is nothing to worry about.

Hello, I just answered your first question about Monty! I would recommend to finish the antibiotics first as they may cause him to have an upset stomach. That way its not so many things at once on Monty's little tummy. Make sure to give all the medications with food. It should be fine for you to give both the Doxy and Metro at the same time. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Chlyo, this has been a tough week for him I recommend calling your Vet. Maalox is not my first choice to fix diarrhea and vomiting. Doxycycline is an antibiotic notorious for causing tummy upset, regardless if you accidentally gave too much. High doses of steroids can cause tummy upset. Prednisone can not be abruptly stopped and needs to be weaned and in Chlyo's case is likely needed to save his life if he has immune mediated hemolytic anemia. There are other antibiotic choices to rule out tick borne disease causing his immune disease. My recommendations is to call your Vet and have Chlyo seen again today. If he was my patient I would use cerenia, metronidazole and have him on prilosec or famotidine (pepcid). I would not stop or wean the prednisone unless his red blood cell count was normal. I would temporarily stop the doxycycline until he is eating and the stool is better and consider amoxicillin instead. We can not tell you want to do on Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach because the laws in the US require a valid Veterinary Clinet Patient Relationship which means we have to actually touch and examine your dog. We can provide advice but your Vet needs to be the one to tell you what to do with the medications. In my opinion, and I have answered a lot of questions from you regarding Chlyo, is that he is a sick dog and he has been dealing with this diarrhea for 1-2 days and is now getting worse. No, there isn't such a thing as giving them too early or too late, but I'd give them to Teddy at times that are convenient to you so he gets each dose at the same time each day. I'd also give them with food. I hope this helps.

If the blood persists in Chlyo's stool I would ask your Vet to prescribe meteronidazole. If he won't eat and continues to vomit your Vet should recheck him I hope this helps and I wish Chlyo a speedy recovery!

Both doxycycline and prednisone can cause vomiting and diarrhea. I am not sure of the dose that your dog is on but maybe your vet could adjust the dose so he has less gastrointestinal problems. Feeding the medication with a meal can sometimes help with the gastrointestinal side effects so make sure to give with food. Your vet could also prescribe an anti-vomiting medication, probiotic, and GI protectant which may help, too. At this point, If he is just going to vomit the medication than it doesn't make sense to give it. You should wait and see if your vet can prescribe additional medications to help with the vomiting and diarrhea. If the vomiting and diarrhea has stopped, you could try to give one medication at a time with food and see how he does.
