Is it safe to burn scented candles near my dog in a small home?

It is very very unlikely that such a small quantity of smoke could have affected your dog causing any toxicity, but if you notice any sign related to the respiratory tract (coughing sneezing persistent panting dyspnoea ) it would be best to have your dog checked at your local veterinarian.

Yes, they are fine around dogs and cats. I use them in my home. Some scents may be irritating to them, however, so I recommend using a more neutral scent like clean linen. That's what I use, and have had no problems. Best of luck.

Most air fresheners aren’t toxic to dogs and I wouldn’t have any worries unless Bentley has chronic bronchitis, collapsing trachea or another airway disease. In this case you should avoid all air fresheners. Watch for coughing.

I would avoid using essential oils directly on your dog as it could cause skin irritation, or be toxic, depending on the oil. If you use diffusers in your home, making sure Hudson is in a well-ventilated area away from it can help prevent inhalation that could cause irritation or illness.

Our pets are very sensitive to the chemicals in essential oils (think how much more sensitive their sense of smell is!), and exposure to diffused essential oils can be dangerous. Cats are particularly sensitive, but it's best to avoid diffusing oils around dogs as well. If you must use diffused oils, do so in an enclosed room and keep the pets out to minimize their exposure. I would be cautious with letting Snow lay directly in front of the gas heater as this could lead to serious burns or his fur catching fire if he sleeps too close to the heater. I would make sure that he at least 5 feet from the heater and make sure he cannot get any closer. I have had several patients (dogs and cats) come in with burns from gas heaters. I hope this helps! Yes it is possible for any aerosolized product can cause irritation of your pets airway causing reverse sneezing. Try to lay off the candle for a few weeks and we if the reverse sneezing resolves. Not every pet will react to candles in this way, so it’s always best to do a little deductive reasoning when determining the cause for your pet symptoms, especially if he never had this issue before. If the candle isn’t the cause, then it is likely just an environmental allergy. As long as the reverse sneezing isn’t frequent and impeding on Bruno’s quality of life, we generally don’t have to treat these pets.
