Hello, and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Our pets are very sensitive to the chemicals in essential oils (think how much more sensitive their sense of smell is!), and exposure to diffused essential oils can be dangerous. Cats are particularly sensitive, but it's best to avoid diffusing oils around dogs as well. If you must use diffused oils, do so in an enclosed room and keep the pets out to minimize their exposure.     Not necessarily. Dogs are more sensitive to scents than humans, and what smells good to us may be overwhelming to them and can be very irritating. There are essential oils that are toxic to dogs, and inhaling them can cause problems as well. I would check to see if the essential oils you are using are toxic to dog via an internet search, or you can check this website to see if any oils you are using are not safe for dogs:

    Happy Labor Day. No, I would not use it at all. Dogs have very sensitive noses, and the scents of these often upset their nasal passages. Plus there are a number of essential oils that are toxic to dogs.

    Great question! There are a number of essential oils that are safe to use around dogs, and I've included a website below that lists them out. Please keep in mind that if you have a cat as well, they are much more sensitive to essential oils and the ones on this list may not be sure to use around your cat.

Hello, there is no problem using the humidifier/diffuser as long as the room in which you are using this is not closed. There should always be a source of fresh air into the room, so cracking a window is a very good idea, even for you. Otherwise, just make sure there is some air exchange going on in the room. Are Airwick essential oil diffusers safe for cats in my home?
Hello. For the most part, these diffusers are safe for cats, as long as there are regular air exchanges & some fresh air coming in all day. Most HVAC systems have automatic air exchanges, but if the weather is good, keeping a window cracked a bit is perfect. Some cats are very sensitive to odors, some do not care for them at all, so as long as the cats are not confined to a closed in room & can move to a different area, there is no harm in essential oils. One caveat, we have a diffuser mounted on a wall in our clinic & it malfunctioned ( exploded ) sending the contents all over a hallway. Fortunately, none of the office cats seemed to have walked through this, but that would be a concern if a cat ingests any of this. But otherwise, I would just enjoy the fragrance of your choice. I would avoid using essential oils directly on your dog as it could cause skin irritation, or be toxic, depending on the oil. If you use diffusers in your home, making sure Hudson is in a well-ventilated area away from it can help prevent inhalation that could cause irritation or illness.

Is diffusing peppermint & lavender essential oils safe for my dog?
Peppermint essential oil is toxic to dogs, so do not use that. As for lavender, while it isn't toxic, dogs can have negative or allergic reactions to it, so use only small amounts initially. If you have a cat, do not use any essential oils as many are highly toxic to cats. I hope this helps!

Unfortunately almost all your essential oils there, with the exception of lavender, are toxic to dogs. Tea tree oil is especially toxic to dogs. I would ditch the oil diffuser all together. Best of luck.

In most cases, if it is a tiny amount going into the air it isn't problematic, the main concern is if your cat is getting the oils onto their fur and licking it off, or directly inhaling the diffuser.
