Should I use the same dewormer for my nursing dog and her puppies?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed | 2 years and 5 months old

I have 3 pups that will be 2 weeks old in 2 days time. I need to get there wormer from the shop But before i do i was wondering do i give mun the same wormer Or does she need tge adult one?

I do not recommend giving a dewormer until at-least three weeks of age. The deworming medication is dosed based on body weight, so the mum will need a different one than the puppies. The label of the deworming medication should indicate how much to give per body weight of the pup, or dog (certain medications can be used for a puppy and an adult dog). If it doesn't then I would not give it.

It's always best to give this medication only as directed by your veterinarian, because it can be easy to make a mistake, or use the medication inappropriately.

    Great question and good on you for getting the puppies wormed! Yes, Darcie will need a deworming treatment, but she will need one that has the dosage appropriate for her weight and age. Get her an adult one in her weight range, and get a puppy one for the puppies. I hope this helps :-)

Intestinal parasites are zoonotic/transmissible to humans by fecal/oral contact so be super diligent about hand washing after handling her or her pups. Great question! Tofy should be dewormed now, then again in two weeks, and a third treatment two weeks after that. This will ensure all the worms are killed. After that, she should be dewormed every three months. When the puppies reach six months of age, they should also be dewormed every three months. I would also feed her a puppy formulated food while she is nursing her puppies. That will give her extra calories, calcium, and protein to support nursing them. What's the best safe dewormer for my puppy and her non-nursing mom?
If the stools are otherwise normal and there is no blood in the stool, then I would recommend the basic dewormer Pyrantel Palmoate, which treats for hookworms and roundworms. If your pets have obviously loose stool, then they may need a broader spectrum dewormer such as Fenbendazole. However it is always advised to get a fecal exam done first through your vet to identify which worms are present. Once that is done, the appropriate dewormer can be selected because not one dewormer will cover all possible intestinal worms).

Often puppies from the same litter will have worms. Find a Dewormer that is rated for the size and age of the puppies and use as directed on the box. (PetCo sells Bayer Quad Dewormer that should get all worm types and is rated for puppies 2lbs and up.) It is usually recommended to treat any puppies that are living together all at the same time.
