My puppy's sibling has worms. Should I give my puppies dewormer?

The best medication for this is usually chosen based on a fecal examination to determine which parasite is affecting Ace. The same deworming medication can be given to your other dog. I do not recommend giving a dewormer until at-least three weeks of age. The deworming medication is dosed based on body weight, so the mum will need a different one than the puppies. The label of the deworming medication should indicate how much to give per body weight of the pup, or dog (certain medications can be used for a puppy and an adult dog). If it doesn't then I would not give it. It's always best to give this medication only as directed by your veterinarian, because it can be easy to make a mistake, or use the medication inappropriately. This would depend on the types of intestinal parasites diagnosed. In general, Strongid (pyrantel pamoate) and Panacur (fenbendazole) are two of the most common dewormers used in puppies. Discuss an appropriate dose with your veterinarian before deworming the litter. It will likely need to be repeated in 2 and 4 weeks.

Hello. Ideally, you should bring a sample of the stool to your vet for a through analysis. That way, anything unusual can be properly treated. But in the meantime, you can go to any pet retailer & pick up several safe & common dewormers such as Pyrantel pamoate, or Safeguard wormer. If the stools are otherwise normal and there is no blood in the stool, then I would recommend the basic dewormer Pyrantel Palmoate, which treats for hookworms and roundworms. If your pets have obviously loose stool, then they may need a broader spectrum dewormer such as Fenbendazole. However it is always advised to get a fecal exam done first through your vet to identify which worms are present. Once that is done, the appropriate dewormer can be selected because not one dewormer will cover all possible intestinal worms).
