My dog has paint on his fur. How do I safely remove it from his coat?

If it does not come out, you may have to shave the hair off in that area to that the new hair will grow back the original color. Vegetable or mineral should have removed a majority of the residue. You can use a fine toothed comb to "brush" out the rest of it. Once you're done, cleanse the area with a few drops of Dawn dish soap and warm water.

Human nail polish remover is toxic to dogs, both from ingestion and the smell. There are nail polish removers for dogs that are supposed to be safer for them, and you can find them online or in a pet store. If you do use a human nail polish remover, remove the polish in a well ventilated area, possibly outside. Put a very small amount on a cotton ball, and remove the polish off the nails of one paw. Keep Mimi's head and nose away from the area, so you may need a friend to hold her head away. Once the polish is off that paw, immediately wash the paw in dog shampoo and warm water before moving into the next paw. Always be sure that if you future nail painting on her nails, only use nail polishes designed for dogs, not for humans. Good luck, I hope this helps!

As long as it is a water based paint and you have washed the area of thoroughly I don't suspect that there will be any problem. Certainly you should make any attempt to prevent her from trying to lick the area in the meantime in case anything residual that could be on there. You might consider either obtaining an ecollar from a vet or pet store or watching a YouTube video on how to make a homemade one. Without seeing the ingredients on the paint I can't be one hundred percent sure that it is completely non-harmful. You could consider calling the pet poison helpline if you are becoming concerned about any possible ingestion then they will be able to go over the possible effects of the substance that is being eaten. You aren't a terrible person! We all make mistakes :-) I would make sure to wash Tim's foot thoroughly with dawn dish soap and warm water to get any trace of the paint stripper off his foot. You do not want him ingesting it by licking at his food. Get his foot a long soak and a full scrub to make sure all of the paint stripper is gone.

This paint is not toxic to them, so no need to worry too much. This type of paint is quite difficult to remove though. The only way to remove it would be to use finger nail polish or simple green cleaner, but you would have to be very careful and need to rinse it off really well. Considering the cleaner could cause more problems than the paint, I wouldn't bother trying to clean it off. I would just wait for it to come off the next time he sheds; which happens rather often in a juvenile. I hope that helps and all is well with Truffles.

I am sorry but I am afraid there isn't a good solution to get it out. You can try baby oil to help it unstick from the skin but I think the best solution would be to take him to your vet and have them clip it out. He will have a bad hair cut but it is better than that area getting infected and needing much more involved treatment. I hope this helps!
