What human foods are safe for my 3-month-old Chihuahua puppy?

If he is not wanting to eat that yet, you may have to start him on a milk replacer until he is a bit older (perhaps a few more weeks) and try solid food again at that stage. Have a good night!

In general, grain free food is not recommended due to a potential link with heart disease. I recommend to feed a brand like Royal Canin Chihuahua Puppy (it's ok that he is a mixed breed) or their regular small breed puppy formula. Purina ProPlan also carries small breed puppy diets. I recommend a small breed diet and to stick with one of the higher quality brands. I like Royal Canin because the diets have high quality, easy to digest protein and contain an excellent fiber blend. Most pets on this diet will have great stool quality and minimal amounts of stool because there's not a lot of filler. They actually carry a line for Chihuahuas. I also like Purina Pro Plan. Coco should eat twice a day and should eat puppy food until he is 1 year old. I hope this helps.

Commercial diet of good quality (Royal Canin or Hill's puppy food) is the best option up to twelve months of age. Then you can switch to adult food. Feed her twice daily. As treats it would be ideal to use vegetables like carrots for example. These would be very healthy and not fat at all.

I would recommend a food intended for small breed dogs. The three brands I prefer when choosing a food are Hill’s, Royal Canin, and Purina. I think any of these would be a good choice. Additionally, if you are unsure of the age and history of your dog I would recommend taking her in to be examined by your veterinarian. Trusty can of course eat dry food! Sometimes if they seem uninterested you can add a little warm water to soften the food but this most likely is not needed. I would recommend sticking with a basic hard puppy food and not mixing in human foods. Giving human food to dogs is a hard habit to break the earlier you start it. IF Trusty is on a well rounded dog food she should not need supplementation. Hope that helps

Hello and thank you for reaching out to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Jelly is so cute! She looks like an appropriate body condition so far, and since she is only 4 months old it is hard to know how big she will ultimately get. I recommend feeding her a normal puppy dry dog food, and feeding the recommended amount on the bag for her weight. It is safe to add in vegetables such as peas, carrots, broccoli, etc - but NO onions or garlic. Most fruits are safe too, such a berries, bananas, watermelon, etc. Hard boiled eggs are safe, but they are high in cholesterol so I wouldn't feed her more than 1/2 per day. Please keep in mind that a good quality puppy diet on its own will have ALL the nutrients and vitamins that she needs to grow appropriately, so it is not necessary to add in extra food. In fact, this could actually cause her to grow too quickly and become overweight, which can cause extra strain on the joints and predispose her to boney issues in the future. I hope this is helpful!
