My dog died suddenly. Could a ruptured paw cyst have caused her death?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | American Pit Bull Terrier | Female | spayed | 125 lbs

Bama, my 125lb Pitt bull died on the first. I need to know what/why my best friend died. She had a large interdigital cysts on her right front paw. Could that have ruptured and poisoned her? I need to know please don't give me the run around. Thanks so much for your help.

First off, I'm very sorry you recently lost Bama. Please accept my condolences for your loss. Please know that without seeing her in person, there is no way for me to say what caused her to die, but I can say that cysts are not fatal. Even if it ruptured, it would not have caused her to die. It could be that she didn't have a cyst, but rather a malignant tumor. It could be that she had cancer that started with a tumor on her paw that spread to her lungs, leading her to pass away. Again, I'm sorry for your loss.
