My dog died suddenly. Could a ruptured paw cyst have caused her death?

First off, I'm very sorry Daisy died suddenly! Certainly a hemangiosarcoma can rupture suddenly, leading to death quickly. Bones are never good to give to dogs, especially cooked bones, but I don't believe that a splintered pork bone would cause a dog to die immediately. I suppose there is a chance if it was a big bone and a large piece punctured the GI tract, but you'd more likely see signs first like anorexia, vomiting, lethargy, blood in the feces, and the dog acting very ill. Unfortunately I can't say for certain without seeing her, but you can take her body into a vet for a necropsy (an autopsy for dogs). This may provide some answers as to why she has passed away suddenly. Again, I'm sorry for your loss!

I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your pet. I am not sure how old she was, but losing a pet no matter how old or young is still hard to cope with. Over time it does get a little easier to cope with this lose and you should always cherish the good moments you had with your pet. As a side, you do have the option of getting any pet a necropsy (examination of the body rigth after they pass) to hopefully determine the cause of death. It is impossible to know for sure what caused her demise based on the symptoms you described but it is possible she may have had a stroke, an underlying heart condition or cancer. I am so sorry to hear about Sky. I can only imagine what you are dealing with at this moment. Based on what you described, I would be suspicious of rat bait poisoning. Rat bait works quickly (effects can start within a few hours) and bleeding is the main consequence. The only other thing that would possibly look like this would be a ruptured abdominal tumor (cancer). This is generally a condition that effects older dogs. Its not uncommon that the pet will act completely normal until the tumor actually ruptures. Mortality is very high. Once again, I'm sorry for your loss. Oh my, that is so horrible for you, I am so sorry for your loss! It could be that she got into something toxic causing her symptoms or she could have had an abdominal tumor that suddenly ruptured. I am so deeply sorry for your loss, my thoughts are with you in this difficult time. It is of course difficult to know precisely what happened to Daisy without examining her, however, I would be concerned about two possible conditions. Bloat which is when the stomach becomes englarged and may rotate. This causes the blood vessels to constrict and affects blood flow to and from the heart. It is common in large barrel chested dogs. Another possibility is A foreign body obstruction, which occurs when something becomes lodged and Blocks the gastrointestinal tract, the bloackage can be complete and cause a rupture. Again it is difficult for me to know what could have caused Daisy to pass. If you need to know definitively, a local veterinarian may be able to perform an autopsy. As a veterinarian who specializes in cancer and sees a lot of splenic tumors on a regular basis, I can tell you that this could have happened as a result of an arrhythmia as some of these tumors that affect the spleen such as hemangiosarcoma can result in arrhythmias or a result of a splenic mass rupture causing significant internal bleeding. So sorry for your loss.

Without seeing her in person, I can't say for certain what caused her to die, but it could be she was suffering from heart disease. That would cause a cough, and can lead to sudden death.
