Why did my Doberman die suddenly after coughing and breathing issues?

Oh no, how horrible for you to experience! I am so sorry for your loss! She could have had heart problems, cancer, liver failure, or possibly something toxic you didn't realize Bella got into during the day. Without seeing her in person, I can't say for certain what caused her to pass away, but I do recommend taking her into a vet for a necropsy. This is an autopsy for dogs, and it may give you some answers on what caused her to suddenly pass away. Again, I am so very sorry for your loss, please accept my condolences :-(

I'm so sorry to hear about Shadow. How terrible! There are a number of things that can potentially cause such a sudden death, but sudden heart failure would be towards the top of the list, as dobermans are prone to a heart condition called dilated cardiomyopathy, which can suddenly progress with no obvious prior symptoms. Other possibilities would include a ruptured mass/tumor, or a toxin. If it would be helpful to have more information about the cause of death, most vets are willing to perform a necropsy (animal version of an autopsy) for a reasonable price. You could call your local vet and ask if this is something they offer. Please accept my condolences on the sudden loss of Shadow. I hope this helps.

Hello. I am so sorry for the loss of your beloved pet. He, unfortunately, suffered a severe cardio-pulmonary event, either from the presence of heartworms, cancer, or severe cardiomyopathy. He was probably sicker than you realized, & also sicker longer than just the past 6 weeks. We all try to do the best we can for ourselves & our pets & sometimes we just run out of time to do anything. I know you feel bad, but you have to be honest with yourself & know that even if you had the money, he may have been too sick to do much for him. Heart failure, a seizure that caused aspiration or non-cardiogenic pulmonary edema, choking, a severe allergic reaction, twisted stomach or an internal bleed. With out an autopsy we will never know. Again I am so very sorry for your loss!

Allow me to first say that I am deeply sorry for your loss. Dixie bear was taken way too early and I offer you my deepest sympathies. Unfortunately, sudden and acute deaths can happen to dogs and cats just like in human beings. Dogs that are completely normal one moment can suddenly have heart attacks or brain aneurysms, etc. that can cause them to pass away the next. Usually the three main causes of sudden death in dogs of her age are massive heart attacks, brain or cardiac aneurysms, or toxicity of some kind. And yes, all three of these diseases can cause an animal to exhibit vomiting right before they pass away. Sadly, the only true way to find out what an animal has died from it is by having a post death autopsy performed by a specialized pathologist. if this is something you’re interested in doing, please contact your veterinarian as to whether or not they can refer you to someone that could help determine the cause of death. This could possibly still be done even though it has been a week. I hope this helps. Again, I’m sorry for your loss.

Hello. I am so sorry for your loss. I am so sad for you. Without a complete medical history, it is impossible to determine causation, but sudden death can be brought on by heart failure, drug or toxin ingestion, electrocution, a ruptured spleen, blood vessel or undiagnosed tumor, severe anaphylaxis, or some other congenital problem just waiting to happen. A sudden death is always shocking & I can understand your need for answers, but sometimes things just happen & they are totally out of our control. Again, I am so sorry for your loss.
