Royal Canin vs. Earthborn: Which dog food is best for my dog?

Hi there and thank you for using pet coach! In my honest opinion, I am a big fan of Science Diet and Royal Canin as my go to recommended dog foods. Both brands offer very well balanced diets that have gone through extensive research. My late dog, that was 20 years old, was on science diet his entire life and I contribute part of his longevity to a great diet. I hope this helps guide you in the right direction. I'm for Royal Canin. You are right it has the research, science, and longevity behind it. Plus it has veterinary nutritionists on staff, which Farmina does not. I would feed the Royal Canin. Another great brand of dog food is Iams. That's what I feed my dogs, and they love it. I hope this helps!

The science diet perfect weight is a very high quality food. I personally would prefer this food over the other one as I am not so fond of grain free foods. Also the label "holistic" really means nothing. With the science diet you have solid research behind the formulation and know that your dog will not lack any nutrients. Make sure that Cali also gets enough exercise to help with losing weight.

Hello. First, Hill's Science Diet & Royal Canin are two of the most respected dog nutritional companies in the world. They have the veterinary scientists & research dollars to innovate, create & stand behind their products that are used to help fight disease & metabolic problems in our pets. If all you are interested in is basic nutrition, then all the other pet food manufacturers are more than adequate, as long as they have the AAFCO statement on their label. But if you have a pet with liver disease, kidney failure, diabetes, gastrointestinal problems or any other number of health defining issues, be very glad we have these companies looking & innovating ways to keep our pets as healthy as possible. They are also able to perform feeding trials in real dogs. This provides much more accurate information on a diet's performance as compared to laboratory analysis. I hope this information helps!

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Skye. Personally, I agree with your veterinarian. Royal Canin is a superior product to Taste of the Wild. They have many veterinarians on staff to formulate their diets and out extensive research into their foods. Taste of the Wild seems to spend a ton of money on advertising. There is a lot of misinformation regarding pet foods. By-products are not lower quality ingredients. For example, if a wolf in the wild kills a moose to eat, it does not eat the skeletal muscle of the limbs first. It eats the internal organs as.these have a higher concentration of nutrients. I recently had a chance to speak with an ecologist at a university on this very topic. By-products are typically organ meat. Bottom line though, you need a food that works for your individual dog.
