My new dog has hookworms. Will Revolution protect my other dog?

Intestinal parasites are spread in the feces of infected animals so as long as you sister is picking up after her dogs your dogs should be fine. Heartworm prevention is indeed needed in all stages and I would highly recommend heartworm prevention which is included in the revolution. However, it is important to make sure that Maggie does not have heartworms before you start it so I recommend that you have her evaluated by your veterinarian for a heartworm test first if she was not on heartworm prevention previously. Most intestinal parasites in dogs are transmitted by fecal-oral transmission. This means that your other dog would have to ingest infected stool from Lenny. I would recommend making sure you are picking up Lenny's stool in the yard and making sure you are washing your hands afterwards. There are a few intestinal parasites that can be transmitted to people so good hygiene, like hand washing, is important. You can always ask your vet to deworm your other dog when they are deworming Lenny just as precaution. If your other dog is already on monthly heart worm prevention (which is important for both dogs' overall health) you may already be covered as many of the heart worm preventions are also dewormers and treat common intestinal parasites. I would talk to your vet about heart worm prevention for Lenny and your other dog if they are not already on it. We generally start puppies on heart worm prevention monthly when they come in for their first set of vaccines.

You are very welcome! For most pets, Revolution is fine for heartworm prevention unless your area is experiencing very high levels of heartworm exposure or immunity to the product. Call your veterinarian and ask if there is a specific reason that he/she recommends an additional heartworm prevention. It’s always best to gather all the information! Hello and thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. It looks like a roundworm. You should apply Revolution on Ninny as this product is effective against roundworms. However, if the worms come back, you should go for de-wormer in tablets, for example Drontal.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Yes, I recommend treating with first round then repeating a round 3-4 weeks after the first. Then her stool rechecked 4 weeks after the 2nd round. Be sure to start your dog on a good heartworm preventative like Intercpetor or Sentinel which can help prevent reinfection with Hookworms. If your dog has been off heartworm preventatives have her tested before restarting. I hope this helps and good luck!
