Why is my rescue dog still peeing like a puppy and missing teeth?

The missing teeth may indicate old age or could indicate severe dental disease that is common in smaller breed dogs. I would recommend to take him to your local veterinarians office to have him scanned for a microchip just in case he is lost. It probably would not be a bad idea to have him checked out as well and to get an estimate of his age. Offer a mixture of dry and canned food as well as pick up some dewormer from the veterinarians office. Best of luck with your rescue!

It is a bit difficult to tell from the picture but the tooth to which you are referring appears to be a baby tooth. If this is the case, it should fall out and an adult tooth should take its place. Also difficult to tell without an in person oral examination, but it appears that based on the picture and the age you have provided for Dexter, that there are retained baby teeth that should already have fallen out. If Dexter is truly unneutered and this is a procedure you plan on having done at some point, having those baby teeth manually pulled while under anesthesia will likely be in his best interest to avoid any significant dental problems while continuing to grow. Hope this makes sense.

Some smaller breeds may have delayed eruption of thier baby teeth but typically by 9 weeks canines should be visible. In rare cases this may require veterinary assistance such as incising the gums. I would recommend talking to your vet at D's next puppy visit for vaccinations. Or scheduling an oral exam just to be safe. Dental radiographs may be needed to assess her dentition.

The picture is a little blurry but it does appear to look like a tooth. Makivali should have lost all his puppy teeth by ten months old but some small breed dogs can be late in development. If you don’t know what adult teeth look like vs puppy teeth, I would recommend to have him seen by his veterinarian to know if this is a normal tooth shedding or if this is a broken tooth, tooth root abscess or other pathological process. Many times pets don’t exhibit many signs of dental pain so you can’t base a decision off how he is acting. If it’s a normal puppy tooth, no reason to change his food. There is definitely a tooth missing there and it should not be a baby tooth unless the permenant tooth has a delayed eruption. For a permenant tooth to be dislodged like this, it would take a lot of force and would likely have fractured the root. If you know of a recent event that would have caused this to happen, then it would be best to have a vet examine him. They can take x-rays and check for the broken root. If there hasn't been a a recent epsisode of trauma and Zeek is otherwise normal and healthy, then you can wait and monitor him for a month or two to see if there is a permenant tooth that erupts (assuming this is a delayed eruption). I would definitely alert your vet about this if he is over a year old and there is still no tooth, or he has any swelling or other signs of infection/problems in the meantime. He likes being warm! I wouldn't worry as long as he can walk away from the heater and cool down. That's great news that his tooth is coming in. Be aware that the tooth may not develop normally. You will have to wait and see. It sounds like the missing tooth/abnormal tooth is not affecting his ability to eat or play but abnormal teeth may be a reason not to breed dogs (you would want to check with the breed registry). Hello. Can you tell from which side the tooth came from?. Especially in the smaller breeds, losing a puppy tooth can be significantly delayed. Lift up Jaxson's gums at the canine teeth & look for any swelling or bleeding. If everything looks OK, then this was just a delayed puppy tooth loss. Any concerns, please see your vet for follow up.
