My dog has forgotten house training. How do I re-potty train her successfully?

Well we can't have your house smelling like a shelter! These can be really tough. It is possible to still house train Pickles, but you are going to have to be very dedicated to make it work. As long as the carpet smells of urine, Pickles will try to pee inside. So it you have carpet, you might need to rip out the carpet, and the pad underneath to get rid of the odor. I would start by keeping her in a small crate when she is unsupervised. Big enough that she can stand and turn around, but small enough that if she pees, she can't get away from the pee. When you are home, she can be with you, but on a leash. Every 2-3 hours you will take her outside and give her opportunity. If she normally goes to the bathroom in the same area in the house, then put up gates or close doors or place something over the area so she cannot get to it. If she is on a leash, this is easier. If she is sleeping quietly or playing, you don't have to worry, but as soon as she gets up or stops playing, immediately take her outside. You have to start completely over like she was 8 weeks old. Take treats with you every time you go outside. When she finally goes outside, make a BIG deal about it. Praise her, give her treats and affection. Hang in there, and be diligent. If you want her to go potty outside only, I would remove the potty pads as this is likely just confusing her. Giving her the option of both may confuse her as to where the appropriate place to go potty is. You need to avoid the opportunity for him to potty in the house. Give him 15 minutes outside. If nothing happens, use the leash and take him from the yard and directly into the crate. Keep him in the crate for 30-45 minutes. Then use a leash take him directly outside. Repeat this until he eventually potties outside. As soon as he potties, praise and give treats. He needs to be rewarded so that he starts to understand. He can then have freedom in the house until you know he should need to potty again. Also, keep him on a leash in the house as this will prevent him from sneaking away.
