What is this raised black bubble on my dog's lip near his nose?

I would recommend having this spot examined by your veterinarian. Boxers are prone to developing tumors, especially mast cell tumors and it is possible that this spot on his nose is something like a mast cell tumor. Other more benign tumors are possible, or it may be an area of infection or a granuloma. Your veterinarian may want to take a sample using a needle (fine needle aspirate) to examine under the microscope and help determine what this mass might be.

There is no way of knowing what it is just based on its appearance. This is often differentiated by a test called a fine needle aspirate (FNA) which is a pain free, inexpensive and easy procedure which in most cases will help reach a diagnosis. Sometimes a biopsy is needed for a definitive diagnosis. I recommend that you have him evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. I am really hoping for something benign. A lesion like that could be several things including an ingrown hair, allergies, skin mites, bacterial infection or a skin tumor/mass. There are a couple things you can do at home and they can help but they may not address the underlying cause. You can try adding in an omega 3 fatty acid supplement for dogs, this can help improve the skin health. You may also try changing her diet to something like Royal Canin or Nutro as they are aimed at skin health. You can wash the lesion once a day (not her whole body, just the lesion). Also protect the area from trauma by having your pup wear an elizabethan collar at all times. If the lesion does not start improving within a week or if it is getting worse, have her examined by the veterinarian. I hope this helps and please feel free to post any additional questions.

Thank you for posting the picture. It is really helpful. This lesion could be many things, and an examination with a veterinarian would be the first step toward a diagnosis and treatment plan. In my experience lesions such as this one in a young dog are usually either a histiocytoma, eosinophilic furunculosis, or ringworm. All of these can pop up quickly, and they are all treated differently. A histiocytoma is a benign tumor that will usually resolve within 4-6 weeks. The others need medications. Without seeing a picture of what you are describing it is difficult to say for sure what this could be. I suspect, due to Blue's age, that this could be a viral papilloma, histiocytoma or pimple-like growth. In all 3 cases, it should resolve on its own. It could be something other than these 3 possibilities. If the spot does not resolve or it worsens, I would recommend having a veterinarian examine Blue to that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. Hello. While it is impossible to make any kind of actual diagnosis, a lesion like this most likely has an underlying bacterial cause. We often see isolated & well circumscribed lesions on the top of the nose or muzzle just from the fact dogs stick their noses in dirt or other nasty things all day long. Putting anything on this is not recommended because he will lick it off. You can pick up a skin antiseptic like Hibiclens from any pharmacy & just dab this on a couple of times a day. Once your vet has a chance to look, he may put Luna on oral antibiotics, or take a small sample to look at under the microscope. Other than this, there is no need to worry too much about the lesion. Hi and thanks for posting on Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! It is hard to get an idea of what the spot is on the bottom lip without examining Otis first. It could be a bacterial or fungal infection, or a mass/tumor. I would recommend having your veterinarian take a close look at it. They may need to take a sample of the lesion to determine what it is and if it is cause for concern or not. Antibioitcs or antifungal medication may need to be prescribed.
