Dog has a spot on its lip. Is it a burn, infection, or something else?

Without seeing a picture of what you are describing it is difficult to say for sure what this could be. I suspect, due to Blue's age, that this could be a viral papilloma, histiocytoma or pimple-like growth. In all 3 cases, it should resolve on its own. It could be something other than these 3 possibilities. If the spot does not resolve or it worsens, I would recommend having a veterinarian examine Blue to that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This could be a benign or malignant growth. There is no way of knowing what it is just based on its appearance. This is often differentiated by a test called a fine needle aspirate (FNA) which is a pain free, inexpensive and easy procedure which in most cases will help reach a diagnosis. Sometimes a biopsy is needed for a definitive diagnosis. I recommend that you have him evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. I am really hoping for something benign. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Cooter! From your pictures it looks like a superficial bacterial infection. It doesn't look like viral papilloma. The infection could be from excessive panting and drooling that caused extra moisture. I would consider a Vet exam as the lips look a bit swollen too? The area should be shaved and cleaned. Oral antibiotics and a topical ointment likely needs to be prescribed. He will ultimately be fine though! I wish Cooter a speedy recovery!

A check up, appropriate disinfection and possibly antibiotics or antifungal meds (oral, topical or in a shampoo formulation) are needed to solve the problem. Disinfection can be possibly started at home with very diluted hibiscrub or betadine or salted water baths. Buster collar may be useful as well to avoid any scratching (if any). Hi and thanks for your post! It is hard to say exactly what the cause of Oliver's lesion without examine Gilmore first, but I can offer some insights. It could be a fungal infection or a small tumor such as a Mast Cell Tumor or a Histiocytoma .Your veterinarian can diagnose these potential conditions with a few skin tests and by taking a small sample of the mass. Hello. Without a clear picture, it is impossible to assess what might be the problem. Since cleaning the area has not helped ( have you been using a mild skin cleanser such as one with chlorhexidine? ), this might be some kind of allergic irritation. These can especially show up if the feed &/or water bowels are made of any type of plastic. Always use stainless steel or ceramic dishes. If this does not seem to be the case, then the best thing is to have your veterinarian take a good look at the skin. Your vet can assess the area, do some rather simple skin scrapes or hair analysis to see if this is an allergic, inflammatory or infectious process.
