My 8-week puppy has worms and green discharge. Should I wait for vet?

It's not uncommon to see a little cloudy vaginal discharge from growing puppies. It's likely the hormonal influences in her body. It usually doesn't require medication, and typically resolves on its own with no treatment, however I have seen some prolonged cases that did need antibiotics. If she just saw the vet today I would recommend calling her back and discussing this change - she may want to recheck Moose, especially if the discharge persists for more than a day or two.

The two most likely possibilities here are that Vada has a primary infection relating to her urogenital region, or that Vada has a puppy vaginitis. If it is the former, systemic antibiotics will likely be required to clear things up. If the latter is the case, puppy vaginitis can unfortunately be a very frustrating situation to deal with. It is usually unresponsive to antibiotics, and the best thing you can do is try to keep the area clean with some antibacterial wipes and probiotic wipes. The green discharge will likely continue to come back but hopefully in lesser quantity, thickness, and odor. Some of the research into this area is suggesting that the best way to help with this condition is to spay Vada AFTER her first heat cycle instead of beforehand. This would be a matter to discuss with your veterinarian after you and he have determined whether or not this is the condition that Vada currently has.

Poor Luna! I can definitely understand being worried - it's always scary to see blood or other abnormalities in your dog's stool. The good news is, if she is eating and drinking normally, active, and not vomiting, it's extremely unlikely that she would have parvo or any other serious illness - puppies with parvo are usually very lethargic, not eating, and vomiting frequently. So it doesn't sound like this is likely to be an issue with Luna :) There are lots of things that could cause a milky substance like this with some traces of blood. Colitis, or irritation in the large intestine, can sometimes cause mucus with streaks or flecks of blood to be seen in the stool. This could also occur due to eating something she shouldn't have, or with a minor intestinal infection of some kind. She could also potentially have an infection in her anal glands, which are two scent glands located on either side of the rectum. If she is acting normal apart from this, it's not likely to be an emergency - but if the problem continues, it would be best to call your regular vet or take Luna in for a recheck exam to make sure that everything is okay.

Hello, No, it is not normal for there to be any green residue in her genital region. My primary concern when seeing discharge like this is something called "pyometra". Pyometra is a serious uterine infection that happens in unspayed female dogs. It results in their uterus filling with pus and requiring an emergency hysterectomy (spay). Your mention of her abdomen appearing to change in size also concerns me that a swollen uterus could be causing this effect. I would recommend taking her in for a vet check as soon as possible. They will likely recommend bloodwork and x-rays as a starting point to check her uterus size, white blood cell count, and make sure her other organs, such as kidneys and liver, are functioning well. The number one reason for puppies to have diarrhea with mucus around it is intestinal parasites (worms). It is best to take her to the vet for an exam so they can run a fecal test and then treat her accordingly.

But the green color could also indicate the breakdown of red blood cells, possibly due to a urinary tract infection. If you think Luna may have eaten something odd, this will pass, but if the green persists, please have Luna examined by your vet at your earliest convenience.

Delilah is too young to be going into heat, so this discharge could be caused by juvenile vaginitis. This is inflammation of the vagina in puppies who have not yet reach puberty. I would have Delilah seen by a vet first thing tomorrow for this. The vet can examine her, determine if she does have juvenile vaginitis, and can prescribe a treatment for it. Typically, it involves daily cleaning of the vulva if it is a mild case with no complicating infection.
