Why does my puppy have white gums, bloody stool, and won't eat?

Just because you don't see worms doesn't mean they aren't there. In fact, hookworms are the worms that cause anemia (and subsequently white gums) and they are so tiny you cannot see them with the naked eye. There are other intestinal parasite, like coccidia, that are microscopic as well. I would recommend bringing a fecal sample to your vet to have it analyzed so you can make sure you are treating all the parasites the puppy may have. Also, keep in mind, most puppies need multiple dewormings to get all of the parasites. Giving her moist food is fine, it will also help hydrate her since she isn't drinking great. It sounds like Euro is really sick. I would put a little Karo syrup or honey on his gums to ensure his blood sugar isn't too low. With his gums being white and his stool looks black I would strongly encourage to take him to your vet or local emergency clinic ASAP. He could be suffering for a GI bleed, a large number of intestinal parasites, a fatal virus like parvo or much more. With him being so small, he is likely dehydrated and Anemic. The white or pale gums are a sign of severe anemia. It could be due to a high worm burden or it may have another underlying cause. Vegeta should be seen by your veterinarian to diagnose the underlying cause. Given current circumstances, you may need to drop him off at the clinic then wait for your veterinarian to call you. Supportive care may be indicated until he is feeling better.

I'm really sorry to see this. In a 10-week old, I am very concerned about parvovirus as a cause of the signs you are seeing. The pale gums and fast breathing indicates to me that this little pup is going into shock or may be anemic from losing blood in the diarrhea. This is an emergency and she needs to go to the vet immediately to prevent life-threatening complications. In the meantime, try to keep her warm and encourage her to drink some water if she is able. Oh no. I would take him to a vet as soon as possible and have him checked for intestinal parasites and parvovirus. Either one could be the cause of his bloody discharge and need to be identified quickly so that he can start treatment right away. Howver, you can offer Pedialyte non-flavored to help keep him from getting too dehydrated. It is unfortunate that a pet you just adopted is ill; however, you can't help Shiner on your own and you should allow your veterinarian to care for him and his illness from here moving forward. What a sweet face! I'm sorry that Kanga isn't feeling well. Ideally, get her to a vet. When there is blood in the stool that is always cause for concern. Take a stool sample in as well; its possible she has picked something up from the new pup, and/or is stressed from the new dog and that may be contributing to the blood in the stool. You can deworm every 2 weeks until 6 months of age, and this would be a wise approach with Kanga as well as the new dog. Be sure to use a monthly flea medication as well; that may be part of her itching. Mange would be a possible cause of the itching and hair loss. There are 2 types of mange in dogs. #1 ) Demodectic mange- is not uncommon in puppies, and is not contagious from dog to dog. Typically not itchy. #2) Sarcoptic mange - very itchy, very contagious, not age specific. She could also have an allergy, or an infection in her skin. Your vet may recommend doing a "skin scraping" to look for mites, or an impression smear (where a glass slide is pushed against the skin and looked at under a microscope) to determine the best treatment for the skin. My biggest concern for Kanga, though, is the GI troubles you are describing, with her having vomited and now having bloody stools. If she did have Parvo already, she will NOT get Parvo again. However, there are many other possible causes for gastroenteritis (inflammation of the GI tract) including: *worms, *protozoal parasites such as coccidia, *other viral causes such as coronavirus, *a bacterial imbalance which may be stress related, * dietary indiscretion (meaning a dog is eating mulch, trash, dead bunnies, etc) She could also potentially have a foreign body ( a rock, stuffing from a toy or bed, a bone, etc) that is causing a blockage in her intestine leading to the vomiting and diarrhea. Especially since you've got at least 2 problems here, (the skin and the GI symptoms), a visit to your vet is definitely indicated. You can try feeding a bland diet of plain cooked chicken and white rice, and deworm her and apply a topical flea medication such as Frontline, while you are waiting to get her in at the vet; but get her in as soon as you can. I am very sorry to hear that your dogs are experiencing these problems, I am sure it is very unsettling for you both. There are a number of potential causes of such clinical signs, including dietary indiscretion, pancreatitis, parasite infestation, infection, and ingestion of a toxin or poison. Because you have only noticed these signs over the course of a few days I would continue to monitor them at home. Rest their gastrointestinal tracts by holding back food for a few hours. Then you can continue with a bland and easily digested food of the boiled chicken breast and white rice diet and provide plenty of fresh water. I also find that boiled, mashed skinless sweet potato is helpful for diarrhea. If they do not improve, has profuse vomiting or diarrhea, you notice fresh blood, they seems lethargic, in pain or depressed I would advise a trip to the veterinarian.
