This is because the amount of antigen contained in a single vaccine dose is the amount needed to stimulate an immune response - this has nothing to do with an animal's body weight, because a Chihuahua has the same immune system as a Saint Bernard. The appropriate dose is the same for all members of a given species, which is why the dose does not vary based on size :)

Vaccinations are the same dose in Chihuahuas as in Great Danes because the amount needed to vaccinated is based on immune response NOT size of the dog. The vaccines give the correct dose to stimulate an immune response and it is the same for all dogs regardless of their size. It is never recommend to request a partial dose because it will not work nor will it provide protection of Lala because she won't be given enough to stimulate her immune response. The size of the dog is immaterial when it comes to vaccines.

If at 5 months, this will be the first time he will be receiving vaccines, then I would recommend he receive his rabies vaccine and distemper-hepatitis-parvovirus vaccine as well as bordetella if he will be around other dogs or kenneled. He will need a booster of the distemper and bordetella in 3-4 weeks. If your dog is a puppy he needs the vaccine every 3 weeks until he gets TWO past 12 weeks of age. If you started vaccinating him when he was 12 weeks or older he only needs TWO 3 weeks apart. All puppies need it boostered a year later (when they are over 1 year old) then every 3 years. The difference between vaccines is that the 6 in 1 and 8 in 1 both have coronavirus and the 8 in 1 also has 2 serovars for leptospirosis. I do not thin that coronavirus is absolutely necessary and the leptospirosis is needed if your dog is at risk. Dogs can get leptospirosis from free standing water/puddles by drinking the water that could be contaminated with this bacteria from wild animal and rat urine. It causes kidney and liver failure. If your dog hikes, camps and swims then you should give it if the bacteria is present in your country. Otherwise the 5 in 1 is sufficient. I wish you the best!

For adequate immunity to develop, Sugar should receive her last set of vaccinations between 16-20 weeks regardless of size. Vaccination manufacturers will not guarantee protection if vaccinations are not finished between 16-20 weeks of age. She will be absolutely fine to have her vaccines at her size.
