My puppy is weak, won't eat, and sleeps constantly. What to do?

It is very concerning that a puppy of Jackie's age isn't eating much food. Cerelac is not an appropriate diet for a dog, he needs a puppy formulated food. Puppies need higher amounts of calcium, calories, and protein than adult dogs, and a puppy formulated food will provide that for him. When he's 12 months old, he will need an adult dog food. I do not recommend feeding him anymore celerac, and put him straight onto a puppy food. Brands I recommend include Royal Canin, Hill's Science Diet, Purina ProPlan, and Iams. As for milk, it causes GI upset in dogs, so only give him water. You can add water to his dry dog food or feed him a canned puppy food to get more water into his diet. Finally, I'd have him seen by a vet for a health check. As I said above, it is concerning that he isn't eating much, and a check with the vet is always recommended. Good luck, I hope this helps!

Human Cerelac is not an appropriate diet for a growing puppy. He should be fed a puppy milk replacer such as Esbilac or Pet-Lac. The diarrhea may be due to the diet or intestinal parasites (worms). Simba should be examined by a veterinarian. If left untreated, the diarrhea can lead to dehydration which is dangerous in puppies. Submit a stool sample to diagnose intestinal parasites or bacterial overgrowth. Consider a veterinary probiotic to promote gut health. You could also mix in a bit of plain yogurt if a probiotic is not available.

Oreo is very cute! He needs to be eating a puppy formulated food, as puppies need higher amounts of protein, calories, and calcium than adult dogs. Brands I recommend include Royal Canin, Hill's Science Diet, Purina ProPlan, and Iams. Puppies do tend to sleep a lot because they are growing quite quickly in a relatively short period of time. A puppy can sleep up to 18-19 hours a day. If Oreo is sleeping this much, it's not that he's being lazy, it's normal. To be safe, I'd recommend a visit with the vet for a health check just to make sure everything is ok. I hope this helps!

Feed more food! Make sure Simba gets a good quality, commercially prepared puppy food (not food for active adults). Start by feeding the recommendation labeled on the bag, but if he wants more he can have more. Also, make sure that Simba doesn't have diarrhea and that he has been appropriately dewormed.

At 5 weeks of age it is normal for Dexter to sleep most of the day and only be active 2-3 hours of the day. Most puppies aren’t weaned from their mom’s until 8 weeks of age. First vaccines aren’t given until 6-8 weeks of age so you are right in scheduling your vet appointment for next week unless he starts to have diarrhea before then. Definitely feed him 3 times a day or leave dry food out for him all day to prevent hypoglycemia /low blood sugar which is common in puppies and can result in severe weakness and even seizures. Hello. Better than the Cerelac, you want to use a syringable product like Hill's a/d or Purina Critical Care. If your vet does not carry these, then you can purchase pureed meat baby foods as long as there is no onion or garlic. If you cannot get this, then take any canned dog or puppy food & puree it at home in a blender adding just enough water that you can push the food through a syringe without the food blocking things up. Until your puppy can eat on its own, you can give 1 cc (ml ) every hour. This is just a tiny amount of food that hopefully Goofy will not throw up. You should also syringe a couple of ccs (mls) of water every hour, too. If any of these small amounts still cause the puppy to vomit, he will probably need to be hospitalized for intravenous fluids & continuing medications to control the nausea & vomiting. Please repost your question with a picture of your pets eyes so that we can give you an accurate assessment of Simba. Red eyes can be caused by just about anything including: allergic conjunctivitis, corneal hemorrhage, raised 3rd eyelid, etc. These are all treated differentyl and typically require a vet visit to treat. Weight loss in puppies is typically caused by intestinal parasites. I would suggest giving him a broad spectrum dewormer from your local pet store or feed store OR getting his stool tested by your vet is ideal to determine if he does have worms and what specific dewormer he needs. I am unsure what brand of food you are feeding now, but I would also recommend feeding him a high quality large breed puppy food such as Royal canin, Hill's Science Diet, Evo or Eukanuba.
