Why does my 8-week-old puppy have wart-like bumps on its skin?

Mast cell tumors are very uncommon in young dogs, so if the masses look like viral papillomas, those would be more common in a 9 month old puppy. Viral papillomas have a pretty characteristic appearance, but it is always a good idea to have your vet examine Daphne and make the diagnosis. Hi. These growths look like papillomas or warts. Typically, these are caused by a virus that he may have contracted by coming in contact with another dog's saliva that had the contagious virus. This may have been through a shared food or water bowl, toy, or through playing. This virus usually runs it course and the warts fall off, but it can take weeks. Sometimes, your vet may have to surgically remove them. Your dog is contagious as long as the warts are present.

These look like juvenile warts (oral papilloma). Such warts are caused by a virus, they are self-limiting and and will go away by themselves eventually within a few months. They will need veterinary attention if they increase significantly in size or amount or start bleeding, get infected, or cause other problems.

This is a very small papilloma wart. It should go away on it's own once his immune system kicks in and generates a response against the wart. Typically, it takes 1-5 months for warts to go away with oral (mouth) growths tending to disappear sooner than those around the eyes. If it doesn't go away in that time frame, or if it gets larger or if he gets more of them, then he should see a vet.

It is not necessary to treat these unless they are causing Coycoy a problem. Otherwise they will go away on their own. You can check out Google for images of papillomas in dogs and see if what you're seeing in her is similar. I would probably give the vet a call tomorrow to mention that you've seen another, and see if he wants to have a look.

Thanks for the image. That could be an area of trauma or irritation. It may also be some localized infection (bacterial or fungal) or maybe a papillomatous growth (wart). If he is licking or chewing at the area, place an e-collar (cone) on him and schedule an exam with your veterinarian. If the spot is not bothering him and he is behaving normally otherwise, you can choose to monitor it at home for rapid change or growth, bleeding, discharge or discomfort. Should any of these symptoms develop, an exam with your veterinarian would be required to definitively diagnose the underlying cause. Any treatment will depend on the diagnosis.
