Why does my 8-week-old puppy have wart-like bumps on its skin?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

My female 8 week old puppy has these, what look like warts. I have been cleaning it with antiseptic hand wash and rubbed antibiotic cream onto the skin but there is no improvement. My vet thinks it is due to licking of the mother dog and her having traumatised the skin with a secondary infection as a result?

They look like papiloma warts. They should go away on their own. They are due to a virus and will regress once the puppy's immune system kicks in. If they are not bothering him then I suggest you leave them alone and stop treating them. You may be making them worse.

Hope this helps. Best wishes.
