My puppy threw up yellow after first vaccines, is this normal?

Hello. It is not unusual for a puppy to feel a little unwell after receiving vaccinations, but these reactions rarely require treatment. Most symptoms will pass in 12-24 hours. If Baxter is otherwise feeling OK, or sleeping quietly, then leave him be. But if the vomiting is intractable, or he develops any diarrhea, quits eating & becomes significantly lethargic please see your veterinarian as soon as possible. It's not uncommon for pups to be a little sick in the morning as they haven't eaten for a long time and bile and acid can irritate their tummies. As long as the puppy is in good form and is not vomiting throughout the day I would not get overly concerned. I would have the pup examined if it becomes a regular occurrence. Vaccines tend to cause local reactions in the skin like you describe but systemic vaccine reactions are much less common. There could be a potential link but if so it seems mild and should pass.

Poor Gulliver! He could have an upset stomach from too many treats. If he is otherwise acting fine, you could withhold food for the day and then try a bland diet of boiled chicken and white rice and see how he does with that. If the vomiting continues or he becomes lethargic then he needs to be seen by your vet for treatment. Hope he feels better soon!

Yellow vomit is termed "bile" and this is seen when the pet has an empty upset stomach. Sneezing can also be a sign of mild allergies or nasal parasites (not as common). If J.R. continues to vomit for more than 12-24 hrs and also has other signs of sickness (i.e. lack of energy, not holding down any food, lack of appetite), then it is best to get J.R. seen by your veterinarian for strong medical treatment and good physical exam. However if J.R. is still relatively active, happy and playful, you can try withholding food for 12-24 hrs then feeding him a bland diet of plain boiled chicken and rice or cottage cheese OR Purina EN Gastrointestinal. Hopefully this is enough to settle his stomach and get him back to normal.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Muggim. I recommend that he sees a veterinarian today. That is a lot of vomiting in a puppy. The milk will not sit well on his stomach so I would stop offering that in the meantime. A vaccine reaction can cause vomiting, but it typically does not last so long. Was he given a deworming medication at the time of the vaccine? A high parasite burden can cause vomiting as they die off. Either way, he needs to be evaluated to determine the cause of his symptoms and how best to treat him. I hope this information helps!

Take a stool sample in to your vet to be examined. If he is acting normally, playful, eating, has good energy, etc, I don't think you need to be too concerned, but do take him in and bring a stool sample with you. Your vet may recommend deworming him if it hasn't been done within the last 2 weeks. I doubt its related to his vaccines. Vaccine reactions typically occur within hours of the vaccine being given, and it sounds like there was enough of a delay that its not likely the cause. In terms of you "felt something," when your hand was on his stomach, I suspect you were feeling gas moving through the GI tract, which is normal.
