My puppy vomited white foam, won't eat, panting. Should I worry?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Female | unspayed | 6 months and 25 days old | 17 lbs

My 6 month old puppy vomited white foam like stuff once this morning. Now he is just lying in bed and refusing to eat or drink anything. He is also panting a little. Should I be worried?

Hi, sorry to hear your puppy is sick. Vomiting once does not concern me. Since she is a puppy, she may have gotten into something she's not supposed to and has an upset stomach. I would give her a pill of pepcid or Famotidine then fast her with no food or water for 6-8 hours. Then start with some water. If she keeps that down, feed her some boiled chicken and rice instead of her own food and no treats either. Feed her this for 2-3 days to settle her stomach. if at time time she continues to vomit or is also having diarrhea, he will need to see a vet. Puppies can get dehydrated quickly and should get tested for the serious disease called parvovirus if she is having vomiting or diarrhea. Good luck, i hope Jessi feels better!

Poor girl. She does seem to be a bit more out of it than a normal exhausted pet that is adjusting to her new surroundings. check her gums and make sure they are still pink and that her pulses are still strong. If those are good, then give her until morning to perk back up. You can also try offering her plain boiled chicken and rice or cottage cheese to see if she will eat a bit. If she is still not well after 24 hrs or seems to be getting worse, then I would highly recommend having your local vet take a look at her to ensure she doesn't have something serious going on. Best case scenario is that she has a mild upset stomach and will get better soon. I hope that Jessi is able to make a full and speedy recovery. Best wishes and take care.

It sounds like your puppy may have either a lot of worms or a canine parvo-virus infection. You need to make sure she is well hydrated, give her water directly into her mouth by the spoonful. I am sure there are vets in Nigeria. Since I do not know where in Nigeria you live, maybe you can pick one near you from this list: http://www.nvma.org.ng/nvma-directory2

Your puppy needs to be seen by a veterinary doctor.

It sounds like she has a severe fever, most likely from gastroenteritis. Maintaining her hydration levels with electrolyte solutions (gatorade or a salt and sugar solution) can help and some probiotics such as live yoghurt may also help bowel recovery. Unfortunately with the vomiting, injectable medications may be required in order to stabilise her condition until her appetite returns, bland food such as boiled rice, eggs, chicken, fish and pumpkin can help

I fear she may have something more serious going on that requires treatment through your vet. My dog threw up sand, bile, and foam after beach. What to do?

I suspect that he may have drank salt water. This can cause vomiting and diarrhea. The white foam and bile is OK and just indicates that she's vomiting on an empty stomach. If she is otherwise acting normal, then it's best to just wait for a few hours and let the stomach rest. Do not give good for at- least five hours after the last vomit, but make sure she has plenty of water. You can also add Pedialyte to the water to help prevent dehydration. When you do feed her again, make sure to only give a quarter of the amount she normally gets. If she keeps that down after two hours, you can give her a little more and then feed normally at the next meal time. If she is acting very depressed, or continually vomits for more than 12 hours, then it's best to take her to the vet for treatment. I hope that helps and Jess gets better soon.

This is likely to be due either to dietary indiscretion or possibly to a infective gastroenteritis. I would suggest to withhold food for the next 8-12 hours and then start feeding with a bland diet based on boiled chicken and rice in small portion every 6 hours for the following 48hours. Then gradually reintroduce the normal diet over 5 days. I would definitively recommend a veterinary check up if the signs persist or you notice diarrhoea, more vomiting, lethargy or inappetence. My dog keeps vomiting white foam, panting, and gagging. Help!

Your poor pup! She may be quite ill. Vomiting in dogs has many causes, some serious and others not so serious. The amount of [vomiting](https://www.petcoach.co/dog/condition/vomiting-1/) along with her symptoms are concerning. This could be caused by [pancreatitis](https://www.petcoach.co/article/pancreatitis-inflammation-in-dogs), a [foreign body](https://www.petcoach.co/dog/condition/foreign-bodies-in-the-small-intestine-in-cats-and/), or a severe GI illness. Given the number of vomiting episodes in a relatively short period of time coupled with the fact she is bringing up white foam, ideally, she should be physically examined by your veterinarian or at the nearest veterinary ER. A complete exam and diagnostics (blood work, x-rays, etc.) may diagnose the underlying cause. Afterwards, the appropriate treatment can be administered. Supportive care (IV or subcutaneous fluids, anti-emetics, etc.) can be administered until a diagnosis is reached.

Poor girl. She may have an internal illness that is making her not want to eat. Since it has been more than 24 hrs I would encourage you to take her to your vet to get checked out. She may have an infection, organ malfunction, or a severe stomach upset from something she ate. She will likely need medications through your vet to help her get back on her feet. In the meantime you can try offering her small amounts of Pedialyte non-flavored (diluted 50:50 with water) and small amounts of a bland diet of boiled plain chicken and rice or cottage cheese. My 3-month pug puppy isn't eating, vomiting white foam, shivering. Help!

I'm so sorry to hear that Beax is not feeling well. We always get concerned when puppies do not eat and are vomiting. Adult dogs can go a while without eating, but puppies can get very sick very quickly if they are not eating and are vomiting. I would recommend having Beax seen by a veterinarian today. They will be able to evaluate for any underlying disease, see if she is dehydrated, and give her some anti-nausea medication to make her feel better. Good luck! My dog has been vomiting white foam for hours. Is it an emergency?

If Jessi has been vomiting for the past 6 hours uncontrollably it would be best to seek veterinary care immediately. It is possible there is an underlying illness, foreign body or other issue that requires immediate care especially if she's continuing to hack and vomit for several hours.
