My puppy vomited white foam, lethargic, not eating. Is a vet needed?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Female | unspayed | 6 months and 25 days old | 17 lbs

My puppy vomited white foamy stuff once this morning. After that she was very lethargic, feels warm and slept the whole day without touching any food or drink. I took her for a walk this evening and after that she drank a little water but no food. I gave her 1/2 ONDEM-MD twice and 1.5 ml Griptol-N after asking my local vet. He also recommended Zymopet but only after she has eaten something. It's summer in India and she is sleeping under the blanket. It's 24 hrs since she ate anything. Any advice

Poor girl. If she hasn't turned around after 24 hrs of conservative treatment at home at your vets recommendation, then it's best to have her seen at this point. I fear she may have something more serious going on that requires treatment through your vet. She could have a number of things going on including a viral infection, bacterial infection, or even a foreign body obstruction just to name a few. And it's best to get her treated for her specific condition quickly as prolonged treatment will lead to a longer recovery period. Until you can get Jessi seen I would suggest offering her small amounts of Pedialyte non-flavored via a syringe or small turkey baster and small amounts of canned puppy food or plain boiled chicken and rice . But a vet visit Is ultimately needed to help Jessi get well.

    It sounds as Wolverine is suffering from a gastrointestinal condition, possibly an infection. it could also be due to ingestion of a foreign body material. i would recommend taking him to the vet the first chance you get, he will need to be checked first, if the vet thinks it's a simple gastrointestinal infection he will need an anti vomiting injection, antibiotics and a special food for a few days in order to get better.

    Poor MJ! Her symptoms could be caused by a GI illness, eating something rotten, a foreign body, or pancreatitis. Because she hasn't been eating for two days, it's time for her to see a vet. The cause of her symptoms need to be diagnosed so she can be treated. Please take her into a vet today.

    Poor Mia sounds pretty sick. Because she won't eat or drink and is vomiting, she is too sick for a home remedy. I would take her into a vet now to get the cause of her illness diagnosed and treated. Best of luck.

Hi, sorry to hear your puppy is sick. Vomiting once does not concern me. Since she is a puppy, she may have gotten into something she's not supposed to and has an upset stomach. I would give her a pill of pepcid or Famotidine then fast her with no food or water for 6-8 hours. Then start with some water. If she keeps that down, feed her some boiled chicken and rice instead of her own food and no treats either. Feed her this for 2-3 days to settle her stomach. if at time time she continues to vomit or is also having diarrhea, he will need to see a vet. Puppies can get dehydrated quickly and should get tested for the serious disease called parvovirus if she is having vomiting or diarrhea. Good luck, i hope Jessi feels better!

My puppy threw up and won't eat for 36 hours. What should I do?
Poor girl. She may have an internal illness that is making her not want to eat. Since it has been more than 24 hrs I would encourage you to take her to your vet to get checked out. She may have an infection, organ malfunction, or a severe stomach upset from something she ate. She will likely need medications through your vet to help her get back on her feet. In the meantime you can try offering her small amounts of Pedialyte non-flavored (diluted 50:50 with water) and small amounts of a bland diet of boiled plain chicken and rice or cottage cheese. If Jessi has been vomiting for the past 6 hours uncontrollably it would be best to seek veterinary care immediately. It is possible there is an underlying illness, foreign body or other issue that requires immediate care especially if she's continuing to hack and vomit for several hours.

This is likely to be due either to dietary indiscretion or possibly to a infective gastroenteritis. I would suggest to withhold food for the next 8-12 hours and then start feeding with a bland diet based on boiled chicken and rice in small portion every 6 hours for the following 48hours. Then gradually reintroduce the normal diet over 5 days. I would definitively recommend a veterinary check up if the signs persist or you notice diarrhoea, more vomiting, lethargy or inappetence. My dog threw up sand, bile, and foam after beach. What to do?
I suspect that he may have drank salt water. This can cause vomiting and diarrhea. The white foam and bile is OK and just indicates that she's vomiting on an empty stomach. If she is otherwise acting normal, then it's best to just wait for a few hours and let the stomach rest. Do not give good for at- least five hours after the last vomit, but make sure she has plenty of water. You can also add Pedialyte to the water to help prevent dehydration. When you do feed her again, make sure to only give a quarter of the amount she normally gets. If she keeps that down after two hours, you can give her a little more and then feed normally at the next meal time. If she is acting very depressed, or continually vomits for more than 12 hours, then it's best to take her to the vet for treatment. I hope that helps and Jess gets better soon.

Your poor pup! She may be quite ill. Vomiting in dogs has many causes, some serious and others not so serious. A complete exam and diagnostics (blood work, x-rays, etc.) may diagnose the underlying cause. Afterwards, the appropriate treatment can be administered. Supportive care (IV or subcutaneous fluids, anti-emetics, etc.) can be administered until a diagnosis is reached.
