Why is my puppy vomiting, not eating, with bloody stool & worms?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Sakari! If Sakari is not eating and vomiting when drinking she needs to see a Veterinarian. She is so small at just 4 lbs that she is at risk for dehydration and low blood sugar. When dogs defecate blood that indicates colon inflammation and also indicates that severe dehydration is even a higher risk. Sakari may have such a high worm burden that all the worms dying are causing stomach and intestinal inflammation or they are causing an obstruction. She also could have something else going on, especially if she isn't vaccinated, like parvo virus or another viral or bacterial infection. The best thing for Sakari is to see a Vet today for supportive care. I wish you the best!

Poor pups. While a heavy parasite load can cause severe GI upset, and anemia which can cause a pup to become extremely lethargic, have bloody diarrhea, etc, I would also want to rule out underlying illnesses as a possibility. It would be best to bring them to a vet ASAP especially if they are lethargic or unable to keep any food or water down as puppies can quickly become very dehydrated. They may also need supportive care such as an IV or injected medications if they are very ill from the parasites or other causes. You can try continuing to offer water, or rubbing a little honey on their gums for energy until you can get to the vet, however due to the severity of symptoms it would be best to seek emergency care.

It is not normal that Pig has a steady blood flow from her behind, and it could be the heavy burden of worms, but it could be something more serious such as parvovirus. I would consider this a medical emergency, and I strongly urge you to take her into a vet now. Best of luck.

Whisky sounds very ill, and at his age, I would be concerned his symptoms are due to parvovirus. That would cause vomiting, diarrhea, and blood in the diarrhea (the red color of his poop). Very young puppies are extremely fragile, and his symptoms are quite serious. I would consider this a medical emergency and he needs to see a vet now. Please take him into one immediately.

The most likely diseases are as follows: 1. Parvo, a virus that primarily attacks the immune system and intestines of dogs and is very lethal if left without supportive care. 2. Intestinal parasites which can cause intestinal blockage and even anemia (depletion of red blood cells). 3. Other viruses with varying severities. This is not an exhaustive list, just the most common things for a puppy. They will all lead to dehydration and other secondary issues which can all be severe enough to cause death. Whatever the underlying disease, he looks very ill and needs attention from a veterinarian immediately. I would recommend taking him to your nearest emergency veterinary hospital as soon as possible. Ideally he should be seen by a vet to stabilise his condition and correct dehydration as well as supplemental feeding and a full health check to rule out additional illnesses reducing his appetite. Consider surrendering him to your local shelter to get him the best care. In the meantime an oral worm dose carefully dosed for his weight from your vets office or pet store, pedialyte and a mousse textured high calorie recovery or puppy food is recommended

Hi there and thanks for posting! I wouldn't start to worry unless Harley starts experiencing an increase in bouts of diarrhea and vomiting. You can try feeding him a bland diet of chicken and rice with a few tablespoons of plain canned pumpkin (not the pie filling ) for a day or two and see if that helps firm up his stool a bit. If the diarrhea and vomiting continue happening, however, I would recommend having Harley seen by his veterinarian.
