My new puppy threw up after eating wet food. Should I be worried?

Yes, it sure could be making him sick. If he is acting fine in every other way then I suggest you just stop with the canned food for now. Poor Benji! If he's only vomited once or twice, it is best to keep an eye on him. You can also offer a bland meal of boiled rice and chicken to help settle any minor GI upset. Small breeds are more prone to issues such as hypoglycemia, so making sure Benji is fed several smaller meals throughout the day instead of larger ones may help, and may also decrease vomiting so he isn't eating too much all in one meal. If he continues to vomit, or shows other signs of illness in addition to it, a vet visit is best to rule out other issues such as illnesses, parasites, foreign body ingestion, etc that can also cause vomiting.

A sudden diet change can cause digestive upset, especially if the switch was sudden. In most cases, a gradual switch is needed to help the body adjust to the new food. It would be best to pick up any food for a few hours, and then offer a bland meal of boiled chicken and rice to help settle Jack's stomach, then return to his old food. Once his tummy has settled down, you can then start transitioning to the new food over a period of 7-9 days (I would recommend only adding in one new food at a time, instead of both a new wet and dry food, to minimize upset). You can add in 25% new food to the mix every 2-3 days as long as he seems to handle eating the mix. Moving into a new home is stressful for a cat, especially if there is a resident cat who doesn't like him. Given the move and the presence of the new cat, I would be inclined to think Simba is throwing up from stress. If he's never had Frisky's wet food before, then that could also be a cause of the vomiting. You can try a bland diet to see if that helps with the vomiting before having to see a vet. Given that there is another cat in the house, I would slowly introduce them to each other. Take Simba, and put him in his own room with his own food, water, and litter box. Keep the door closed, and for a few days, feed them both treats on other side of door so they associate each other's smell with a good experience. Then let the other cat in Simba's room while he is in a cat carrier. They can smell each other, but not be in contact. If either becomes upset or show signs of aggression, remove the second cat from the room, and try again later. Praise them when they interact appropriately. When they are interacting well with each other through the carrier, you can let Simba out of his room, and see how he interacts with the other cat. I would get a cat tree with lots of shelves to give the cats vertical space to get away from each other. I would keep Simba in his room when you go out until they are comfortable with each other.

It's hard to say if you should be worried at this point but if the vomiting continues you will have to get him evaluated. Any sign of illness in a pet that persists or worsens needs to be evaluated by your veterinarian and re evaluated until the problem is resolved. Vomiting causes fluid loss and electrolyte loss and can lead to dehydration and weakness. Not sure if Simon is an indoor/outdoor cat but I would advise deworming him since intestinal worms are so prevalent. That is an easy thing to do to rule out intestinal parasites and should be done in all cases of gastrointestinal upset as long as the medication can be safely given and it is not vomited back up. Intestinal parasites are extremely common across the globe and account for the vast majority of vomiting and diarrhea cases. Other causes include inflammation, infection, dietary problems (including dietary indiscretion or eating things pets are not supposed to eat, food sensitivities/allergies), ingestion of foreign bodies or exposure to toxins, bacterial overgrowth in the gut, problems in the stomach, intestines, or even problems outside of the intestinal tract/stomach including pancreatitis, kidney/liver problems, metabolic disease (diabetes,etc), endocrine diseases (thyroid or other hormone problems), etc. A thorough history and physical exam with resultant diagnostics such as fecal tests, blood tests, and more imaging studies such as x-rays/ultrasound to try to determine what is going on.
