Why is my 7-month-old kitten throwing up after eating new wet food?

The odd look is probably due to the mixture of wet and dry food, and I suspect the wet food is causing Simba's vomiting. The addition of a new food suddenly can cause stomach upset. Feed him a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. If he refuses to eat the bland diet, he vomits the bland diet, develops diarrhea, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, he will need to see a vet right away.

Moving into a new home is stressful for a cat, especially if there is a resident cat who doesn't like him. Given the move and the presence of the new cat, I would be inclined to think Simba is throwing up from stress. If he's never had Frisky's wet food before, then that could also be a cause of the vomiting. You can try a bland diet to see if that helps with the vomiting before having to see a vet. I recommend withholding food for 12-24 hours, then feeding a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Given that there is another cat in the house, I would slowly introduce them to each other. Take Simba, and put him in his own room with his own food, water, and litter box. Keep the door closed, and for a few days, feed them both treats on other side of door so they associate each other's smell with a good experience. Then let the other cat in Simba's room while he is in a cat carrier. They can smell each other, but not be in contact. If either becomes upset or show signs of aggression, remove the second cat from the room, and try again later. Praise them when they interact appropriately. When they are interacting well with each other through the carrier, you can let Simba out of his room, and see how he interacts with the other cat. I would get a cat tree with lots of shelves to give the cats vertical space to get away from each other. I would keep Simba in his room when you go out until they are comfortable with each other.

Causes of vomiting in kittens are: intestinal parasites, viral or bacterial infections, ate something causing a blockage, food allergy/intolerance, hairballs or reaction to a new treat/food or table scraps. If Mau is still eating and active I would try to get him on 100% kitten food. Some cats vomit more on canned and vice versa. So have both available. Chicken isn't a balanced diet for a cat. You can also try some laxatone in case he has hairballs. If he stops eating or continues to vomit I would have him rechecked. Hello, sorry to hear about Silk. It is not normal for a kitten to be vomiting frequently. However, some kittens may vomit if they eat too much or too fast, although still, this should not be frequently. If Silk is vomiting often, I would worry that he may have some kind of infections such as a parasite or an abnormality in his GI tract. Other things such as an allergy to his dry food may also be considered. The best option would be to have Silk evaluated by a veterinarian to ensure he does not have an infectious or congenital disease that needs to be addressed with something else besides a diet change. Your simplest solution would be only feed him wet food. However, you can try a different kind of dry food which doesn't contain the same ingredients as the one you're currently feeding. Again, this would neglect any condition which may require more aggressive medical therapy. Hope this helps and best of luck.

Aw poor Simba! I'm sorry to hear he's sick! It would be a good idea to have him checked out by a veterinarian to ensure he does not have an intestinal obstruction, infection, or other cause of vomiting and decreased appetite. He may need injections to stop his vomitng and fluids to rehydrate him. I'm concerned that 4 days of not eating can cause serious illness in a cat so the sooner he sees a veterinarian the better. It's hard to say if you should be worried at this point but if the vomiting continues you will have to get him evaluated. Any sign of illness in a pet that persists or worsens needs to be evaluated by your veterinarian and re evaluated until the problem is resolved. Vomiting causes fluid loss and electrolyte loss and can lead to dehydration and weakness. Not sure if Simon is an indoor/outdoor cat but I would advise deworming him since intestinal worms are so prevalent. That is an easy thing to do to rule out intestinal parasites and should be done in all cases of gastrointestinal upset as long as the medication can be safely given and it is not vomited back up. Intestinal parasites are extremely common across the globe and account for the vast majority of vomiting and diarrhea cases. Other causes include inflammation, infection, dietary problems (including dietary indiscretion or eating things pets are not supposed to eat, food sensitivities/allergies), ingestion of foreign bodies or exposure to toxins, bacterial overgrowth in the gut, problems in the stomach, intestines, or even problems outside of the intestinal tract/stomach including pancreatitis, kidney/liver problems, metabolic disease (diabetes,etc), endocrine diseases (thyroid or other hormone problems), etc. A thorough history and physical exam with resultant diagnostics such as fecal tests, blood tests, and more imaging studies such as x-rays/ultrasound to try to determine what is going on. It's very likely to be the switch up of food. withhold food for 8 hours then offer him boiled boneless chicken and rice every 6 hours in small portions. if he is eating and not vomiting, continue with this diet for 2 days. After 2 days, you can put him back gradually on his old food. If he continues vomiting or is not eating, take him to the vet to get treatment.
