Puppy vomited after joint supplement. Should I try giving it again?

Any food, drug/medication, supplement can cause vomiting. The ingredients may not agree with Joey for whatever reason. I suggest you stop giving it and if the vomiting persists, get him to your vet for an exam. If the vomiting stops then you may want to try a different joint supplement.

Diarrhea and throwing up can have many causes. It is basically a problem with the stomach and intestines caused by a food over sensitivity, eating something that does not agree with the dog, intestinal parasites, bacterial infection, viral infection, the weather, food change, stress, etc.  I would fast Max for 12 hours and then put him on bland food for two days, such as boiled white rice and boiled white boneless chicken meat, fed in small quantities over several feeds and then transition back to his regular food slowly over a few days. If this does not clear up the diarrhea or if the vomiting increases, or if he gets lethargic, he needs to see a veterinarian for an exam as there may be something more serious such as an infection going on.

I'm sorry to hear that Capi is having problem with his hip. Unfortunately, vomiting is one of the potential side effects of Vetprofen. That is a lot of supplements for your puppy, and if he's vomiting and lethargic it could be related to the meds, or to the injury. You didn't mention if any X-rays were taken, and falling from that great of a height can certainly cause broken bones or internal bleeding which could be causing puppy to continue moaning in pain and worsen in condition. Bringing him back in for further testing to rule out more serious injuries and see if his meds need changing is best.

If a pet is vomiting, it is best to withhold all food and medicine for at least 12 hours. Afterwards, a bland diet can be offered in small, frequent amounts. It is never recommended to give human medications to your pet without the advice of your veterinarian. Some medications can be toxic or may complicate any underlying condition. If she can keep the water down, continue with small frequent amounts. No more than a couple tablespoons (20-30 mls) at a time. Have her examined by your veterinarian in the morning. The foods she ate can certainly cause vomiting, but it is best to have serious illness or foreign body ruled out by the vet.

Fortunately, there is usually nothing overtly toxic with overdosing on a joint supplement, & if Louis is doing well at this time, he should continue to do so. He may experience some gastric upset, so diarrhea is still a possibility. I do want you to always be on the lookout for additional stomach problems such as vomiting, gagging/retching, bloating or perceived abdominal pain.
