My puppy fell and is sick. Could his many medications be the cause?

I always advise that if an abnormal sign or behavior persists, worsens or other signs develop to always have your pet evaluated by your veterinarian right away. The fall may have caused some soft tissue/bone injuries or even internal injuries that are causing her problems. Also, she could be suffering from something unrelated to the fall. Your vet can examine her after gathering a history and then advise you on diagnostics/treatment. Possible tests include fecal/blood/urine tests and x-rays. Good luck

I would be very concerned about neurologic disease. A possible fracture that is healing and pressing on the Spinal cord or traumatic disc compression. With neurologic disease it can vary clinical signs and severity. I would recommend strict cage rest at least 4 months. With him being active he could be injurying himself worse.

Hi there! Sorry to hear that Koko is not feeling well. The clinical signs you describe are concerning when they occur in a puppy as they can be seen with serious gastrointestinal infections such as Parvovirus. Other possibilities include intestinal worms and dietary indiscretion, among other possibilities. The vitamin injection is unlikely to be the cause of this though it is not possible to know without knowing the kind of vitamin he received. The sooner these conditions are treated the better the outcome tends to be. For this reason, I recommend that you have Koko evaluated by your veterinarian to check for these possibilities and to start therapy based on findings. At the very least they can address dehydration if present and start him on anti-nausea medications. Good luck! Keeping my fingers crossed for your boy!

I highly recommend bringing Smokey back to the veterinarian and have her re-evaluated. I get concerned when puppies are very weak and not really taking the medications well. The two may or may not be related. It is hard to say. However if they are related then he will likely have a fever. You can check his rectal temperature and it should be between 100-102.5 degrees Fahrenheit. If it is high then I would suspect an infectious disease (tick borne disease), congenital bone disorder (femoral head necrosis) or septic arthritis could be causing Ollie's symptoms. Having some baseline bloodwork and a complete physical exam is a good place to start in trying to narrow down the possible causes of his ailment. If he is otherwise stable and eating, drinking normal, and able to go urinate and defecate normally, then he may be able to wait until morning to be seen by a vet. However, if he has pale gums, is lame to the point of being non-responsive, or starts vomiting excessively, then he needs to go to an ER vet right away. Best case scenario is that he has a muscle sprain and also had an upset stomach from something he ate. These would be easily treatable through the vet. You can try to offer him a bland diet of boiled plain chicken and rice or cottage cheese to help settle his stomach tonight. Also keep him rested and don't allow him to jump or run to prevent any further injury to his back leg. I hope things work out well for you both. Best wishes and take care.

The medications she is receiving are fine, but really need to be administered in a hospital situation, But I can understand the constraints & difficulties you have with veterinary care in your country. Lousie may have parvo or distemper, diseases that are difficult to treat even under the best circumstances. I would at least try to keep her confined so that she only has access to clean water. You can try giving her chicken or beef broths or stocks, too. All we can do with these very young patients is to hospitalize & administer the proper treatments. It sounds as Milo is suffering from a gastrointestinal condition, possibly an infection. it could also be due to ingestion of a foreign body material. i would recommend taking him to the vet the first chance you get, he will need to be checked first, if the vet thinks it's a simple gastrointestinal infection he will need an anti vomiting injection, antibiotics and a special food for a few days in order to get better.
