My puppy has ticks, and current treatments aren't working. What helps?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! If you have access to the oral flea and tick preventatives (Nexgard, Simparica or Bravecto) they work the best. Or the Seresto Collar (lasts for 8 months). Otherwise I would use the spot on (advantixx, etc). I hope this helps!

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Leo! Fleas are nasty and can be resistant sadly to holistic remedies as well as most of the topical flea preventatives. I recommend the new oral flea and tick preventatives. I like Nexgard or Simparica which are both monthly or Bravecto which is one pill every 3 months. I also like the Seresto collar which repels the fleas and ticks as well. It also lasts 8 months. The orals listed above will be quicker than the collar. Also be sure to treat all the animals in the house. I hope this helps and I wish Leo a speedy recovery!

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Tofy! We would need a closer picture of the tick and we would need to see the under side as well to identify the tick. I would recommend the Seresto collar or the oral flea and tick preventatives like Nexgard, Simparica and Bravecto. Vinegar does not kill any species of tick. In my experience the natural products do not work for ticks or fleas and the risk of the diseases they transmit is greater than the use of non-natural products. Again if you would like us to ID the tick we need very close up pictures of both sides. I hope this helps and I wish Tofy the very best!

HI, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Gypsy is very cute! Flea and tick powders do not work well. They may kill what is on the pet but will not prevent. I recommend one of the following products: Nexgard or Simparica which are monthly edible products, Bravecto which is also edible but lasts 3 months and I like the Seresto collar which repels ticks for up to 8 months. Hello and welcome to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Ticks live in the grass and jump on animals/cloths, and then bite and stay attached. Fleas will live in bedding/baseboards and will jump on and bite animals and then jump off. If you get a product such as Frontline, Bravecto, Nexguard, Advantix, Advantage, Revolution, etc. that should deal with fleas. Some will deal with ticks, but some won't. I would check to see if you aren't actually dealing with bed-bugs. Try getting a picture of the creatures that are on Bruno, and are crawling towards him, and we can try to help you determine what they are and what to use. Best of luck with Bruno!

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! In order to kill the ticks with Simparica, the tick has to but the dog and they will die with in a day. If you are finding engorged ticks then the product isn't working and you should stop using it. If you are finding attached dead or slowly moving neurologic ticks then they are dead or dying from the Simparica. If you feel you need the Seresto Collar I would just use that and stop the Simparica. The collar repels and the tick doesn't have to attack to be killed. But yes the 2 can be used together but I see no point if you think the Simparica isn't working, why waste your money on 2 products? Good luck!

It depends on the brand of collar, as I find most of them to be pretty poor. The only one I really like is Seresto. But if you are still finding ticks, I'd say this isn't working. I recommend a spot on treatment like Revolution, it's excellent. I hope this helps!
