My dog has ticks, is scratching, and losing hair. What's the best treatment?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Charlie! I recommend the following products for ticks: Nexgard, Bravecto, Simparica or the Seresto Collar. The spot on treatments, bathing and powders do not work well anymore. Hopefully you can get one of the above products from your Vet. The Seresto collars can be found online but I have heard of counterfeit ones being sold on amazon so be careful of online sources. It is best to try to get them from your Vet. Hello and welcome to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Ticks live in the grass and jump on animals/cloths, and then bite and stay attached. Fleas will live in bedding/baseboards and will jump on and bite animals and then jump off. If you get a product such as Frontline, Bravecto, Nexguard, Advantix, Advantage, Revolution, etc. that should deal with fleas. Some will deal with ticks, but some won't. I would check to see if you aren't actually dealing with bed-bugs. Try getting a picture of the creatures that are on Bruno, and are crawling towards him, and we can try to help you determine what they are and what to use. Best of luck with Bruno!

Hi there and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to address your concern! Poor Rusty! Ticks are no fun and can be quite painful when in large quantities. I would recommend using a flea and tick preventative such as Frontline, Nexgard or Bravecto. He will likely need a shampoo to help soothe his skin after the ticks die. I would recommend Douxo PS Calm shampoo, which can be easily found online. I hope this helps and that Rusty improves! Please let me know if you have any other questions / concerns!

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Leo! Fleas are nasty and can be resistant sadly to holistic remedies as well as most of the topical flea preventatives. I recommend the new oral flea and tick preventatives. I like Nexgard or Simparica which are both monthly or Bravecto which is one pill every 3 months. I also like the Seresto collar which repels the fleas and ticks as well. It also lasts 8 months. The orals listed above will be quicker than the collar. Also be sure to treat all the animals in the house. I hope this helps and I wish Leo a speedy recovery!

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! It’s hard to see the bug in your picture. It is likely fleas. I would start a flea medication. I like the oral ones like Nexgard, Simparica or Bravecto and I also like the Setesto collar which lasts 8 months. With these you can bathe him as well. With the topical medications you can’t bathe until 2 days after application. And personally I do not think they work as well. I hope this helps!
